  1. What a great picture!! Thank you, Mr. Helbig. As great as Diamondback will be, The Beast family still rules!
  2. As long as my legs hit the lap bar at the tops of the hills, I'm happy! Sounds like a plan to me!! As long as you don't hit it too hard!
  3. i dought that on The Beast expecially when you hit the trim breaks after the first drop. Now, if we could just get those trims to go on break, we'd have it made!!! Trim brakes? On The Beast? There are no trim brakes on The Beast. At least that's what Gordon Bombay and Captain Nemo seem to claim. Those four sets of them are just your imagination at work. Pfffff! Yeah. It didn't work with me either! The same thing happened to me on Vortex with a cell phone in early May of this past year. Well...at least it was found on Vortex. I can't say where. Kings Island was nice enough to call one of my contacts so that it would be returned to me! Which means if you have the same attitude as me, the tops of all hills MUST be at least slightly less than 9.8. Oh dear. Dare-to-Fly, that formula won't work for what you are after!!! Same general idea, just a slightly different formula.
  4. Instead of the Diamondback Ert, I'm just gonna go on The Beast Walkback... I'm with you on that, providing of course they still do The Beast Walkback this year.
  5. ^^ I can't wait until he sees that!! But you left me out. I'm crushed. I hate brakes, too.
  6. If we get the chance to see it run both ways, perfect!! CoastersRZ, that is just the difference between us I suppose. I like the faster ride without the brakes. I'm not going to go into the engineering calculations for ride dynamics and safety that Aaron elluded to (although I could), I just try to enjoy the ride. I know for me, it is a thrill to go into SOB's midcourse and sail right through. That's why Voyage is my favorite.
  7. I'll always give it a chance. However, I hate trim brakes. If they use them at all, in my opinion, it is too much. If you ride a coaster enough times, usually you can catch a trimless ride. Take SOB for example. It is possible to get through the midcourse without brakes. Look how much better the second half of the ride is without it. Diamondback, at least in my mind, will be the exact same way. 74Gibson, you picked about the only two coasters at Cedar Point that do not have trims. I do blame them for using heavy trims on Mean Streak. Don't forget about Gemini and Magnum XL200 either. They both have them. Look at Kings Island. There are only three coasters there that do not have trims. Even The Beastie has a trim.
  8. Come on, it's Cedar Fair. You KNOW they will use both brakes and use them to their utmost ride killing potential. The MCBR will be set up just like all the others, if not a complete stop than almost. The trim brake will be on full power too. That said, I'm sure that Diamondback will be a great coaster, and brakes or not, I'll ride it. If they use the brakes, though, it will be the difference between having just another steel coaster and having an awesome steel coaster.
  9. "Sorry folks, we're closed for two weeks to clean and repair America's favorite family fun park. Sooooooorrryyyyy.... Uh huh uh huh uh huh!!!" --Beatle, always looking for the opportunity to refer to the original Vacation movie...... Don't forget to punch the moose in the nose while you're at it!!
  10. Trio????? What happened to Mantis and Mean Streak? How could you forget Mean Streak? Mantis on the other hand . . .
  11. Terpy, you said a bad word!! Fanny packs on the other hand . . . Who still wears those? Not this ACE'r.
  12. That's how they handled mine, and my brother's as well. One can only hope they know what they are doing!!
  13. Top 5 at KI 1. SOB 2. Beast 3. Racer (either side) 4. Vortex 5. FOF Top 5 Overall: 1. Voyage 2. Shivering Timbers 3. SOB 4. Millinnium Force 5. Ravine Flyer II
  14. I really enjoyed the Haunt last year. I really hope it is as good or better this year. I am looking forward to the cool nights that really make the coasters seem to fly!!
  15. ^ The trim was not there when it first opened, or if it was there, it was not used. I believe that was in 1991 when I first rode it. I don't remember one being there in 1992, either. Alas, I was not back to Cedar Point until 2000 after the 1992 season, and it was a disappointment to say the least.
  16. ^ I rode Mean Streak before the trims. Back when it was running good (and before being trimmed to death), it was a lot of fun, although it was rough. I really don't mind a rough wooden coaster. The faster the better. I hope it gets some TLC too. It could be a very good coaster if they would let it live.
  17. And if that were the case, we would have many, many more posts by Interpreter outlining legal claims against the park for Shaken Rider Syndrome, and for Capital expenditures increases year after year to re-track the thing. I have had many rides on The Beast this and last year, and nearly half of them, I have to wonder why I rode in the first place. It has good days and bad days it seems. I would hate to be there on a bad day without trims, thankfully in all probability, they will forever be there! Oh yeah, anyone here actually "like" riding Blue Racer back seat this year?? I am fairly certain Beast would be about like it after a trimless year, though I admittedly have no evidence whatsoever to back that claim up, just my knowledge of the general forces associated with a high speed wooden roller coaster attraction, and the stresses created by that force over time. Yes, I do "like" riding Blue Racer. Actually, I thoroughly enjoy it. Admittedly, I don't ride in the very back seat, but only one seat forward (not over the rear wheel). At KIC day during the ERT, I rode in that very seat for nine rides, without ever moving. A couple of rides, they did not even unlock the lap bars. It was a blast!! Beast1979, I see that you must really like Cedar Point. What do you think of Mean Streak?
  18. ^ I agree with that, to a point. I personally think that they are over-doing the trims. But, it is not my call. If it was, we would not be having a conversation about trim brakes. The conversation would be more like "what's a trim brake?"
  19. Beast1979, it might well have been going 10+ MPH faster last year. They have added several new magnetic "blocks" to the rows of trims this year alone. The train barely makes it back into the brake run if its mostly empty now, especially on the walkback in the morning. It never used to do that. The two additional blocks added to the helix drop were put there sometime between the 4th of July and the first of August this year. I wish that you were old enough to have actually experienced The Beast, both with the skids and on the rare "trimless" rides, then you would understand what The Beast actually is and is capable of. KI really needs to get it back in shape. During the KIC event, Jeff mentioned that The Beast "sells itself" to the public. I think they are banking on that a little too much.
  20. Yea, I couldn't feel my spine. If I may ask, when did you ride Beast without the brakes?
  21. Well, but the MCBR is still used!! In 06, I flew down that triple-down, and frankly, I would've taken that airtime over anything El Toro can give!! But now?? Well...ummm...you completely slow down before the triple-down and get maybe one ok pop of good air....BOOOOO!!!!! No they are not. The MCBR is not used as a trim brake this year. HW is not a Cedar Fair park. They don't continually add trim brakes.
  22. Not really, but you sure make it easy at times.
  23. But, if I did that, what would I annoy you over? I'd have to find a whole new topic, and that just would not do.
  24. It is interesting that he left out the Cincinnati and Sandusky markets. I wonder, could it be that the guests in those markets have found other parks that are less expensive to attend, and allow more fun to be had? Since both Kings Island and Cedar Point apply trim brakes to their coasters to the point that they almost valley during the ride, and have obscenely high food and drink prices, maybe people are finally taking notice. I'm certain that people sit around and say, "let's not go to Cedar Point and Kings Island because of trim breaks." <G> I think that is absolutely the only reason I've NEVER heard anyone use for going or not going to a park. You are probably right, people don't sit around and talk about trim brakes directly. Most probably don't even know what a trim brake is. The point is, people remember how much fun a coaster was. Trim brakes take away from that fun. Let us suppose that you have two identical coasters at park A and park B, but the one at park A is trimmed and park B is not. Guests will remember that they had more fun on the coaster at park B. Back to the Bradys at KI, it should be an interesting day. I look forward to it.
