  1. No I haven't started my family (not yet but soon), I'm not sure what comments on "others family choices" you are referring to and I agree that I can't confidently say I know exactly what I should look for though I have my opinions. I do, however, live in downtown Columbus and can say that I have a good idea of who is downtown during the day, at night, and on the weekends. I mean I get it that kids like carousels in a place like an amusement park or family oriented community but downtown Columbus isn't a new housing development and I don't think putting a carousel there is what it takes to bring families there and I also don't think that is the goal of the city. It has a lot of new condos but there aren't any schools and I'd really be surprised if a lot of families with children will be living in this area.
  2. Nope no sarcasm here. Listen I respect the talent of the artists that carve the horses and eyesore was probably not the best word choice, at least not in its first year before its covered in broken light bulbs and plywood, but I maintain that a carousel is an awful choice this atmosphere. A carousel would fit nicely in quite little historic towns like Mason or Westerville where people are raising families. That area of the city has been pretty run down for awhile but with this park, the park on the river, and the massive amount of brand new condos being built there not to mention is proximity to the arena district, short north, and brewery district/german village its becoming a very attractive place to live for young professionals and people in their 30s. People that are looking for a modern urban atmosphere not a place to raise kids. THe people that you're going to find a this park are people that work downtown out on their lunch break, are staying in one of the hotels, and people that live in the near by condos. This is not an area that find a lot of little kids with the exception of an event like red white and boom. These are not people that ride carousels or want to here that music while they are enjoying the park. I can't imagine this ever making enough to pay for itself especially with maintenance costs and the personnel required to operate the thing in the middle of the afternoon when there are any children for miles. I love the Scioto Mile and I'm really excited to see it get completed. Except of course for that bridge to nowhere they are about to build right down the middle of it but that a whole different story for a different topic.
  3. I have to say I think this is a horrible idea. Carousel's are an eyesore and ancient and have no place in a modern public park that a city can be proud of. I think the money would be much better spent on an iconic work of art along the lines of the Cloud Gate or Crown Fountain of Chicago's Millennium Park. I really hope they put an end to this and quickly before anymore money is wasted on the idea.
  4. That's a good point for personal pictures but I only use it for quickly uploading something like an overhead picture of Cedar Point to sites like this. You can sign up and use it as an album if you'd like but I use Picasa for that.
  5. Like Terpy said you would have to build a very strong boardwalk in order to make it last through the winter and the problem with that is a robust structure could affect the beach along the Chaussee which has some very expensive houses including that of a certain Cedar Fair CEO. The other thing to remember is that the whole boardwalk rumor, although interesting, was started by Jeff Putz webmaster of Coasterbuzz and Pointbuzz. It was a supposed to be a joke and not based on any inside info or industry buzz. It's right up there with Magnum is sinking and the green Millennium Force train.
  6. Cedar Point is not going to remove any hotels, if anything they will probably add more. Cedar Point doesn't want people from out of town to spend their money at Sandusky Hotels and restaurants they want that money at the park. Think about what makes more money for CP local teenagers that come for the day and maybe a drink and a hot dog or an entire family from out of town that spends multiple days inside the park, eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at CP and sleeping in a CP hotel. Thats why they renovated Breakers 10 years ago, just recently renovated Sandcastle, added Castaway Bay, and added Breakers Express a few years ago.
  7. Imgur.com is good too takes a mere seconds, you don't have to sign up, and the pictures never crash.
  8. I'd love to see a big flyer on par with Tatsu right in the front of the park. Nothing would be better then walking in to the park surrounded by two world class B&M's.
  9. Just found this site today that has a bunch of old theme park maps. CP has done quite a bit of ride shuffling over the years. I just checked out a couple of maps and already learned something new. I had no idea Wild Cat used to be in the front of the park. EDIT: Better?
  10. I'm always surprised and impressed with how CP finds a way to squeeze in new rides. For Millennium Force they had to relocate the Giant Wheel, Top Thrill Dragster they had to move the Trokia and Chaos, and they removed Mill Race and White Water Landing for Raptor and Maverick. I don't mind too much when they remove old rides, I only wish they would make a greater effort to build around the existing trees instead of removing them. So how do they do it and more importantly how will they continue to do it? Creativity, imagination, removal the removal of old rides, and development of what little untouched land they have left. I predict we'll see a coaster that occupies Iron Dragon's former land and the parking lot next to Disaster in the next few years. Also I could see them removing the turnpike cars and building around Raptor and the theater. I don't think we'll see any press release from CP stating that they've run out of room and that there will be no new rides.
  11. I don't doubt that one bit I'm just wondering where all this B&M talk is coming from.
  12. Are we saying this is a B&M based only on the track in that concept drawing or am I missing something? Because while the track says B&M the trains and restraints say Intamin. I'd be just a little surprised to see the Intamin wing walkers popping up in 2011 because I though Furius Baco was considered a failed concept. Supposedly it's extremely rough but maybe they've tweaked their design a bit.
  13. I noticed that too. I know where CP can get a GIANT top spin. And they wouldn't even have to pay for it, only for the relocation. Then again, CP already has a ferris wheel. [Great America already called dibs.](http://www.geaugalaketoday.com/Texas_Twister.htm)
  14. That was kind of useless, it basically just summed up the Sandusky Register's article and didn't offer anything else. You'd find more information and opinion in any single page of the "New Cedar Point attraction to be announced in Mid-August: Kinzel drops another hint about the new ride" thread right here at KICentral.
  15. You can't "valley" at the top of a hill. You can get stuck at the top, you can get stuck in the middle, you can get stuck at the bottom. But you've only valleyd if you are at the bottom of the two hills otherwise known as the valley.
  16. The Microsoft maps called Bing are pretty cool too and offer a "birds eye view" which is probably as zoomed as you are ever going to get Check it SOB's loop here. It's funny because if you look to the North or East the loop disappears. Also a little note on google maps that you might not be aware of is that if you drag the little yellow guy over the map and hover some streets turn blue, if you then drop the yellow guy on the blue road you get a street view as if you were standing or driving right down that street. I believe there are a few amusement parks that have done this inside the parks but I'm not certain on which ones. Bing also has this feature in beta in select cities.
  17. Cool, I wonder if this will make it on the show.
  18. I found this bit to be first very exciting then a little disappointing. “Let me just put it this way. We went after the family market this year ... We’re going to go after the thrill seeker next year.” Kinzel wouldn’t give more details. “There’s more thrill rides than roller coasters,” he said. “I can’t tell you what it is. It’s a very exciting ride.” It doesn't mean that CP is definitely not getting a new coaster but it certainly implies it.
  19. Why would Intamin care? Shoot the Rapids is likely paid for in full so I don't think they care how CP markets it. Also don't forget that there is at least a decent chance that the ride Kinzel is refering to is an Intamin. Also as far as being ordered in advance I don't think its out of the ordinary to order any roller coaster this far in advance regardless of size. edit: thanks for posting the article, very intriguing.
  20. Little Update via the Sandusky Registrar "Basically, we had trouble with the boats," Kinzel said Monday. "It's more of an engineering problem than a safety problem." "The manufacturer made the flume, and he contracted out the boats," Kinzel said. "When the boats came together, the boats didn't fit the flumes."
  21. Those look amazing. I can't wait to see them in action. Also it looks like its actually going to be called Formula Rossa instead of F1 coaster. I just hope the decorative wheels don't suffer the same fate as the ones on Top Thrill Dragster. I'm guessing these ones won't spin freely.
  22. I typically pack a cooler when I go to CP but it'll be a lot easier to spend a few dollars if its for good quality. Speaking of good quality they are also bringing in Great Lakes Beer. All I have to say is Christmas Ale and its a good thing the park is closed in the winter.
  23. Wow this looks really cool and I love bears so I'll have to go check this out. Columbus Zoo really is a quality Zoo and I'm glad to see they are always expanding and improving.
  24. I completely disagree that it looks uninspired. Its not another cookie cutter B&M out and back or a launch top hat break run. If anything I'd say it looks like a combination of Maverick and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit both of which are completely different and were something new that we've never seen before. It looks really long, twisty, lots of possibility for airtime hills, and the square area at the bottom is a complete mystery that could be any combination of hills, launches, tunnels, themeing who knows. It looks very intriguing to me, and I can't wait to see what this turns into.
