Driving A Duck...
Go Browns replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The Duck tours offer a very cool perspective of Boston too. Be sure to call ahead a reservation though because they are very popular. Don't they have this in downtown Cincinnati too? -
Cool pics but those are some horrendously ugly trains. Spot on for NASCAR but horrendously ugly none the less. Especially compared to this Ferrari Spider themed car for the racing GT coaster at Ferrari World. (courtesy of screamscape)

I agree with Beast9791, STR is not a roller coaster. Being a coaster enthusiast means I've discussed and argued minute differences in mystery track, mid course break runs, and gotten excited the lack of over the shoulder harnesses. However, I'm taking the easy way out on the coaster water ride argument. In my opinion STR is a water ride that floats on water the majority of the time, is listed on CP's site as such, and there for is not a roller coaster. Easy peasy. I completely understand all the arguments to the latter but I'm like I said I'm taking the easy way here. Water ride is water ride and coaster is coaster. Being that I grew up next door to CP and spent countless hours of both my childhood and adult life at CP bragging to out of towners about every detail of the park. I have to say I'm honestly and maybe selfishly a little disappointed that CP no longer has the record for most coasters, tallest, fastest, or any of the other records they've lost. In any case I still love the park for all types of reasons from nostalgia to it's location on Lake Erie. So if they never build a new record breaking coaster again I'll still visit every summer. But my god please don't let that be the case.

I agree with all of your points and appreciate your real life experience. The reason I get excited about another one of these built is that hopefully it means S&S is still working on improving them and making them more realistic for a park that I might actually make it to.

LOGAN, Utah - (February 15, 2010) – Long recognized as the company that designed the 4th Dimension coaster, arguably the most technologically advanced coaster on the planet, S&S Worldwide, Inc. is pleased to announce plans for yet another 4th Dimension coaster. Known as X2” at Six Flags California and as “Eejanaika” at Fujikyu Highlands in Japan, the next 4th Dimension coaster will amaze and thrill the people of China when it opens there in 2011. Unlike traditional coasters where trains only parallel the track, the 4th Dimension sends riders screaming around its 3,600-foot maze of steel track aboard massive wing-shaped trains. The seats extend off of the track to the sides of the vehicle, allowing the passengers to be independently rotated head over heels and forward and backward. The 4th Dimension’s large vehicles seat 24 passengers, two abreast in twelve individual cars, six positioned on each side of the train, with a state-of-the-art restraint system that adjusts to each rider’s size and safely secures the individual for the duration of the ride. The ride’s 360-degree rotating seats move the passengers independently, creating head-first, face-down drops, and unique “don’t know what to expect next” excitement. The passengers actually face backward as the train leaves the station, rounds a turn, and begins its 250-foot (76-meter) ascent to the crest of the lift hill. The passengers get an impressive sweeping view of the surrounding area and are not afforded the comfort of seeing what’s to come. Before plunging off the near vertical first drop, the seats suddenly flip forward, placing the riders in a totally unique and thrilling position facing the ground. The steep first drop is insane, reaching a breathtaking speed of nearly 80 mph (129 kph). As the passengers soar through the exciting elements of the ride experience, including raven turns, dives, and half-twists, the smooth rotation of the seats creates a surprise with every turn or drop, some beautiful air time, and an intensity that never lets off. “This amazing coaster takes riders on a journey to an unchartered dimension of extreme that only the 4th Dimension can deliver,” said Kevin Rohwer, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for S&S. “We appreciate yet another opportunity to build and install this incredible coaster, and we anticipate that the amusement industry will be very excited about its upcoming installation. Dinosaur Park (Changzhou, China) is already counting down the days until this great attraction will open to the people of China.” Even though this looks to be a clone of Eejanaika I'm really glad to see another one of these being built because they just look so cool. I've never ridden a 4D but most of the reviews I've read and videos I've seen make them look incredible. My first thought after hearing that another of these being built was that it means that we could see another in the states but I just don't think its going to happen any time soon. These are loud, require a massive footprint (lookin at you CP), a massive amount of steel, and as we all know a lot of maintenance headaches. As far as 4Ds in the states go, I think it's likely we will see an Intamin Zacspin before another S&S and so far Intamins best efforts at 4D hardly look comparable.

Tony Clark said over at Point Buzz that soon they will be adding a reverse pov of Maverick. I'm really looking forward to seeing that craziness.

Abu Dhabi to build Ferrari World theme park

Anyone else see any problems with having the fastest coaster in the world located in the desert? Imagine riding this on a windy day. -
I only voted for "knowing" because I'm not sure in recent years or future that I'll ride a ride without knowing the layout. I get so excited about new rides that I research them until I could see the whole ride in my sleep. If I were going to go a park for the first time then I'll likely not be able to contain my excitement and beforehand I'll research every onride, pov, offride, and construction video of each ride in the park. Yes, I also searched for my xmass presents as a kid...

SHOOT THE RAPIDS at Cedar Point
Go Browns replied to firehawkboy's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I give you the post of the day award. Sure I want a new a coaster as much as anyone but you have to please the families in order to be successful. The cool thing about this ride to me is that I like Snake River Falls and Thunder Canyon but I can never seem to rationalize getting a locker and change of clothes necessary to ride them. With the addition of Shoot the Rapids (Shooter?) that makes changing clothes and getting a locker a lot more logical. So I'm looking forward to not only riding Shooter for the first time but riding the other two for the first time in a decade. I'm curious to whoever said this ride could not possible cost $10.5mil. Where do suggest the rest of the money is going? Is this a conspiracy or did CP get ripped off and in the future they should consult you for what the price of rides should cost? -

I think Intaride is considered Intamin's North American outlet but I don't really understand the difference. First time I ever heard it was when Maverick was announced. -

I like this a lot. Don't get me wrong I loves me some twisted wooden coaster but this looks like a great addition. -
I've never ridden anything like Intimidator before but if I really wanted to I'd just go to Kings Island and ride Diamondback. I've also never ridden anything like Intimidator 305 but I'd have to go all the way to Virginia to do so, so I likely won't.

Well we won't likely see another Arrow anything ever again but I think B&M are towing the line rather well as far as inverts are concerned. That being said the only Arrow inverts I ever rode are Top Gun and Iron Dragon and the only B&M inverts I have ridden are Raptor and one of the Batmans. I guess the main difference between the two are Arrows cars sway freely back and forth but B&Ms fixed cars allow for great inversions. Anyway I always hate to see a ride torn down.

Okay. Can you explain that? The Canfield's & McGee's are two feuding families in the themeing for Paddle Wheel Excursions. It's a play on the legendary family rivalry between the Hatfields and McCoy. -
