Not going to bother me in the least. When gas went to 4$ the last time I bought a Hybrid Crossover SUV and can now go to Cp or KI and back on the same 13 Gal tank, and have enough gas left over for the week when we get home. With the attendance this winter at Fla. parks I would say that the economy is already picking up, but 4$ gas could slow that and people will stay at parks closer to home, I know I will.

Keep in mind though, how many of those 23 kids rides are unique rides? I think that CP has maybe 5 or 6 different "Hampton" style rides. Or just the rides where kids spin in a circle in a car on the ground. KI has at best 2 like that? CPs kids area is a joke, and I think the crowds in the kids area typically show that, as I have never seen a wait for anything but the kiddy coasters. The reason that there is no waiting is because there are 23 of them. I would rather have 3 areas of the park for kids spread out than just one. At KI you can't even walk through the kids area for all of the strollers sitting everywhere. You ever had to have multiple 3-5 yr olds stand around in line for an hour, not happening. When my son was that age we only went to KI only once because of the lines at the few kids rides they do have, they might be good kids rides but waiting an hour with kids on those rides was not worth it. At Cp there is usually no wait and at that age they do not care if they just go in circles they just want to ride. By the time my son realized that they were mostly the same ride he was on Disaster Transport and Iron Draggon.

I agree with most of what you posted but Kokosing is being payed with tax $ so there is no savings, it comes out of taxpayers pockets. So yes they will have to build a building around it as the zoo did, but that is another cost that isn't reported, as in our new bridge+ additions+ cost over runs. I have no problem with improving the area but let developers do that with there own $. Nationwide did it with the Arena District why can't some other developer do the same thing with the mall? Because politicians would not allow it, they had their own plans. The casino could have been built there but Colman pushed the park project ahead, and I don't remember any public meeting about the subject. Mayor Reinhart tried to bulldoze the old penitentiary years ago to get the arena tax passed and some wanted him jailed, but some how the city keep the park quiet till the mall was already coming down. I like the new upgraded parks along the river, but I don't think we needed another park downtown at this time' I believe it was done to keep the new casino out of downtown by the powers that be. Look what the Arena District brings into the city, another park is not going to do that. I may be conservative but I would support the tax money going to this park instead go to paying off the Arena so the Blue Jackets don't have to pay for arena's bills.

Did you ever think that maybe they're trying to change that? Between Columbus Commons, Scioto Mile, and the awesome new Audubon MetroPark, in addition to the Santa Maria and COSI, there's easily a full day of family fun downtown. I think we'll see Columbus Commons become the new outdoor event center for Columbus (much like the aforementioned Centrum of the '80s, and Franklin Park of the '90s), and that isn't a bad thing. The worst think developers could do at this point is nothing. As for the cost of the Carousel, as the Dispatch article mentioned, the money is "surplus" from the project after tax savings. The carousel will be a revenue-generating operation and has a chance of recouping it's investment. A sculpture on the other hand... There are no developers, this is all being done with tax dollars, the mall was torn down with tax $, the park is being built with tax $. How is a carousel being built with tax savings? This carousel will not recoup it's cost, it will be a drain on tax $ just like the Santa Maria. What you are saying in your post is the same clap-trap they were saying to get the boat to nowhere/Santa Maria built and placed on the river. If I remember correctly the boat that is supposed to be turned every year has not had the money to do so for the last couple of years and the taxpayers have paid for is since it arrived. What I would like to see change is the total waste of our tax $ in this city, a new increased tax was pushed through saying we were almost broke and would lose police and fire services if the tax was not passed, but yet our mayor has spent nearly 50ml $ or more on nothing but parks in the downtown, not to mention the new bridge that was to cost 19ml and total cost turned out to be 64ml $. Tax savings my A$$ As for the idea, outdoor event center thats great, for over 20ml $ it will have a great 10yr run as in the other parks you named. The reason the mall was torn down was because of the crime, it was not safe in the parking garage, gangs roamed the mall intimidating shoppers, and if you locked up your bike to a post outside, mall cops would cut the lock and have the bike taken away. A carousel at this location will be severely damaged in the first year costing tax $ to repair.

I would have to agree that KI Crypt is an epic fail, after experiencing the same ride at KD, what a beautiful ride that was.

So How do they keep expanding?
Airtimeluvr replied to Cormaster's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Every wood coaster has to have the track or structure worked on almost every year and MS is no exception but it has never been retracked. BS had track work done , Gemini has structure work done almost every year, that is the nature of wood structures outdoors in the elements. MS is a great ride and has the same problems as any wood coaster, hasn't Beast been reworked to keep it from tarring itself apart, how about Son of Beast. -
So How do they keep expanding?

So by this logic Cp can remove Mine Ride, Iron Dragon, Wild Mouse, Disaster Transport, most of the flats, and some of the shows and restaurants. I know I do not go for the shows, restaurants, or flats. Cp has plenty of space and is not going to remove a coaster let alone Mean Streak unless it falls down, when was the last time Cp removed a coaster. -
Did you even read what I wrote, I have been going to KI since it opened It's first year. Ok I give you that, I was excited to go that one time on the first opening day in their history but have not been excited since then. We do visit a couple of times a year though, with Platinum passes we visit just because we are in the area. What do you mean In The Long Run.

Cedar Point may be more exciting to you than KI because you have only been there 3 times. I bet if CP was your home park you would get more excited for Kings Island. Cp is my home park and I live in Columbus, been going there for over 40 years and the family spends 9-12 days a year there, and I am still more excited to go to Cp than KI. I have been going to KI since it opened and I have never been excited to go there. My 12 year old son would rather go to Cp over KI every time. Last time we were there at KI we rode Diamondback 3 times and then left because he would rather go back to the hotel and go swimming, of course the hotel is Great Wolf Lodge.

It's not just you. In the two days at KD the family rode i305 just once and did not want to go on it again, and it was a walk on. As for my vote I went with Magnum Xl 200, the family's first ride every trip. But my 12 yr olds favorite is TTD and the last trip 4th of July we had an amazing surprise, a TTD walk on twice at 2-3 pm!

I have to admit, I'm a bit jealous of KD
Airtimeluvr replied to Cormaster's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Just got back from KD and BG, and there is no comparison or competition IMO. They are worlds apart, one is a beautiful walk in the forest with rides and great food, while the other is a traditional amusement park with rides everywhere the eye can see. As for i305 or Diamondback I would ride Diamondback all day as to just one ride a day on i305. Volcano was the best ride in the park and Dominator was so-so IMO. -
Platinum passes for the family here in Columbus since they became available. Have already been 3 days Cp, 2 days Kd, and 1 day Bg not a Cf park. We will make a few trips to Ki later in the year for HollowWeekEnds, plus another 6 days at the Point, Home park since forever.

Diamondback Construction Thread (Updated 3-19-09)

^^^When the pallets were delivered to Cp they had a white cardboard or thick paper material over them for protection when they were bundled, whether for shipping or storing I do not know. From the distance they are from the camera I can't tell if they are square or round. Just my 2 cents. -

^^That picture of the path reminds me of Cp, when they laid the bricks in the new Planet Snoopy. I think the white block looking things in the walkway are pallets of bricks for the walkway. Yesterday the path was a light brown when those white things appeared, today after the rain the path changed to a darker color, I think it's sand. At Planet Snoopy they poured concrete with high curbs and then put in sand and then laid bricks on top of the concrete. -
My First was the original Cork Screw at Knott's Berry Farm in 1976. I had been going to Cp for years and I had never seen anything like it. I was excited to just be there and have that chance to ride, and I have been hooked on coasters ever since. Then to come home and find out a couple of years later the thrill of Cp's 3 loop Cork Screw, I have been in coaster heaven all my life in Ohio.

Best Time To Visit Cedar Point?
Airtimeluvr replied to TheCryptRaider's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Tue. or Wed. in May around opening of the season to early July is the best time to go. We love Wed. there is usually nobody there and the rides are a walk on. Yes when schools are still in class you will have bus trips coming , but I have never seen it make that much of a difference on a Tue. or Wed. Thur or Fri. is a different story, people take long weekends and then when the buses show up it gets very crowded. Halloweekends gets very crowded with the park only open on the weekends, every year now we see it grow more and more. -
Diamondback Construction Thread (Updated 3-19-09)

Three people were standing to the left of the splash pond when I saw the ripples, maybe we will get a new photo update today of a splash down. Also I believe Cp coasters close down because of the wind, and the rain hitting riders in the face, at high speed rain hurts. Since Db runs around 80mph I think it will close in the rain some times, but not in a light shower. It has nothing to do with the track being wet, it has to do with rain, wind, and the rides speed. As for a splash zone, I think standing along the fence under the final drop into the splash you will get misted on a windy day. They did not put all of that gravel and rocks there just for looks. I think there will be lots of water thrown up that way, and it was put there to allow water to run back down to a drain instead of killing the grass and turning it to mud. -

I think you are right, there looks to be a train coming down the hill to the last camelback as well as going up the lift hill. On the webshot of the shed it also looks like there are two trains missing from the storage tracks. -

If we can not see DB anymore they should take the webcam link off of the DB webpage. -

How convenient, everyone is watching for the first test run of DB and they change the camera angles. They must be starting to do testing. -
This discussion did not start until Jan 30th, and from page 1 it did not say anything about a deadline. I joined Feb 2nd and no one said anything about this when I questioned about my son under 13 joining. Lack of information on this site has cost us a great time, I can not even go because deadline was up before it even started.

I have been lurking here for some time since last year watching Diamondback construction, and really enjoy the site. I just joined so that I could find out more about this event and I see you have to be over 13 yrs of age to join. If my son is 10 and can't join this site, how is he going to join us at Ride Warrior Weekend? The family has platinum passes from Cp and really want to come to this great event. The wife can join but my son can't, we will not be leaving him at home, it would not be fair to him. He has ridden ever coaster at Ki and Cp except Mantis, his favorite coaster is TTD and he is looking forward to riding Diamondback. It would be great to ride before the regular seasons crowds arrive. Is there a way to sign him up just for this weekend, or allow at least one guest?
