Wasn't there also an incident where someone brought a TASER gun to the park? Mike B.
  2. Sounds like another new (or slightly altered) sign for the parking lot, along with a possible clearance sale on all merchandise that has "Paramount's Kings Island" on it, sometime in the future. Mike B.
  3. I was at CP two weeks ago and saw the something similar. A woman was at the entrance to the Magnum with her son (who obviously was too short to ride it) trying to explain that they had both just ridden the Millenium Force. She called the attendant an idiot. In my view he acted very professionally. I won't say what I thought of her. Hat's off to all the ride attendants out there that have to put up with "guests" like this. You people are the best. Mike B.
  4. I have the information booklet from 1974, the first year I visited Kings Island, and it was pocket-sized for that year. It was posted on the old Pkiconnection site a few years ago. Mike B.
  5. If King's Island could make it work I'd go. Today, August 25th, marks the 30th anniversary of my first visit to King's Island.
  6. I know of one replacement that was a big improvement: Shawnee Landing - The Beast 1979
  7. Thanks for the info. I visited PKI once already this year back in June. This trip is more of a "just to get away from the house" vacation than anything else, along with the fact that I got tickets for $20.00 each with free admission the night before after 5pm. If the park gets too crowded or if I get tired, I'll head back to the motel and relax in their indoor pool and whirlpool. August 25th will mark the anniversary of my first trip, which was back in 1974. By the way, with PKIConnection gone, is anyone interested in the jpeg scans that I made of the Kings Island Guidebook from 1974, and the souvenir book from 1979? coastermike
  8. How about special event days? I'm going back to PKI on August 5th and 6th and I know that there's a concert at the Timberwolf on the 6th. (Rick Springfield). Should I expect the park to be crowded up until concert time and then level off during the concert? I remember back in the 80's planning a visit to Kings Dominion in Virginia only to find the place so packed for a concert that people were parking on the shoulder of the I-95 freeway and a big sign outside the park suggesting that we visit another day. coastermike
  9. From the Detroit area, about 4 hours. Other theme parks are closer, but I still prefer PKI.
  10. It might depend on who you buy your tickets from. I got mine from AAA at a sale price (which ended last Tuesday) of $20.00 for a one day ticket with after 5pm night before admission option for $10.00.
  11. Everyone in my group received a feedback survey card Friday evening while we were taking a break at the tables across from the International Showplace.
  12. I found out from one of the attendants on Friday what everyone here has already figured out: Action Theatre Days Of Thunder is closed for the rest of the season due to low attendance and SpongeBob 3D will be the only film shown. SpongeBob was okay, but I would have ridden DoT anyway.
  13. Having visited Kings Island almost every year for the past 30 years, I would gladly fill out a survey on my opinion of the park. Last year I went to SFWOA and was asked if I would participate in a phone survey later in the month. I accepted and when the call came I made my opinion clear that I wasn't very satisfied with certain aspects of it (no real themeing, a very disappointing whale show, etc.) I wouldn't be as harsh on PKI as I enjoy visiting there but I wonder if my answers were part of the decision to sell SFWOA to CF?
  14. What a disapointment. I'm going to be at PKI tomorrow afternoon and all day Saturday and I was really looking forward to Days of Thunder because it is my favorite Action Theatre ride as well.
  15. There's 14 of us travelling from the Detroit area that will be there on June 18th and 19th, including my cousin who last visited PKI 23 years ago.
  16. As a longtime Kings Island visitor (my first visit was way back in 1974), I'd be very interested in something like this, but I'd also like to tour the Kings Island offices as well. I'd also like to see the Discovery or Learning channels do a show on how a seasonal park like PKI gets everything ready for winter after the park has closed, and how they prepare to open the park each season. I plan on visiting June 18th and 19th.
  17. I remember when Main Street was a street, with a curb that you had to step up onto. My first visit was in August 1974 (the map section of pkiconnection has jpegs of the info booklet that was given out at the entrance - that's my mom's handwriting that you see on a few of the pages). I was 10 years old at the time (do the math and you'll know how old I am now). I got to ride the canoe ride that was there before The Beast. It wasn't much, just a bunch of us paddling the canoe with a guide telling jokes. I didn't ride The Racer that year, as I had a fear of fast rides at the time, which I overcame not too long after. I've been to King's Island almost every year since then, but didn't make it down there last year. Hopefully this year will be different. coastermike
  18. The picture on the PKI Connection website is a scan from a 1979 souvenir booklet that I own. As I write this, I have the book in front of me. The picture in the book is the same as the one on the website. If the picture is a fake or a doctored one, it was done by either Kings Island or the publishing company, Dexter Press.
