Alternate Entrance Gate?

I've been going to Cedar Point every summer for about 10 years now, and I really love the back entrance to the park by Soak City. You can walk right on Magnum XL-200 in the morning and then get to the back of the park by Maverick really fast. I think Kings Island could do something like this too, by having a parking lot behind Boomerang Bay. This could provide access to the back of the waterpark, and also an entrance to KI near the railroad station. I think it would be really convenient and would help spread out the morning crowd better. Thoughts?

Excellent idea! But if KI builds a parking lot behind Boomerang Bay, that eliminates the chance for expansion back there, or even new rides for the park. Parking lots take up lots of space that could be used for better things, or even just for natures beauty. I like the idea of another entrance, but I don't like the idea of giving up valuable land space that could be used for more fun in the future.

That's true too... But KI still has plenty of other space to expand...

I think it would be great. And it would help with the ridiculous walk to the gates when the main lot gets full (though on a day like that you should just turn around and go home).

I agree^. In addition Cedar Point has all those hotels back there to justify that. What has KI got? The little Miami River?? I can see it now:

NEW FOR 2008! CANOE PARKING! Come on down stream to our brand new entrance on the Littlie Miami River! Just $8 for Canoes, $9 for Row Boats, $7 for Kayaks and $10 for small sailboats. All those with boats larger may park convinently at our new landing dock for the price of $16. Dont miss River front access for 2008!

Watch out Nick, KI might try to take your idea

I say what they do is tear down some of those houses and neighborhoods down on the eastern side of Western Row Drive (where that wicked 90 degree turn is that semi's can't use).

Then they could build a whole new parking lot with access to Rivertown/Coney Island/Boomerang Bay AND direct access to the new B&M dive coaster in Rivertown, and if they need more space, build coasters over the parking lot! Worked for Six Flags, right!?

Given that Carowinds had a North entrance gate and a South entrance gate, in two separate states, and one of the first things Cedar Fair did is essentially stop using the south gate except on the busiest of Saturdays....given that Kings Island has a north parking tolls and a south parking tolls, and one of the things Cedar Fair has done is almost never operate the north tolls...and given that other parks have closed their second admission gates to save labor (Six Flags Over Georgia comes immediately to mind), I wouldn't think the park will be adding more entrance gates any time soon.

One of the most amazing things to me is that Kings Island virtually never uses the season pass entrance that was built some time back...

Only on the busiest of busy days does that open. I have seen it once, and I had to "Guard" the metal detectors on both that entrance and also the main entrance because of the wall of people. Kept setting em off inadvertently and I had to keep "repairing" them.

I think you will see Top Thrill Dragster moved to Kings Island long before you see a rear entrance added to Kings Island by Cedar Fair...

And for the record, I think the chances of either are somewhat higher than 0.0000001 percent. Put another way, you are more likely to win the lottery and have a moose jump through your living room window on the same day.

I doubt people will be willing to sell their homes to Cedar Fair for them to be demolished for a new parking lot and entrance. In addition KI does not have the kind of money to just go buying peoples property.

LOL, just remember you heard it here first.

Ahhhhh.....but you're forgetting about a little concept called eminant domain!! And thanks to the Supreme Court decision in 2006 (or maybe 2005?), any business can seize any private property if they jump through the right hoops!

Rivertown entrance (from the Rivertown parking lot) for Son of Firehawk (the 08/09 264' B&M dive coaster in Rivertown) here I come starting Friday, April 17th, 2009!! (with free parking, no less, for renewing my 09 Maxx Pass in 08!) :D

^Let's say for one second (and one second only) that your prediction comes true and they build a Rivertown entrance and parking lot. You can expect to pay at least $15-$20 to park and will see an increase in admission to cover excess costs

That's the Six Flags way!! And if they're issuing season passes like Tic-Tac's (especially the orange one's! :D ) at Tic-Tac prices....then who cares about admission costs!?!

^I'm not sure what ur saying with the whole six flags tic-tac thing... If you're saying that Six Flags season passes are cheap, you're VERY wrong. They cost upwards of $160 with a parking pass. And for the record, this forum got WAY out of hand haha.

Uh, no. Cedar Point season passes with Ohio parking costs even more than that! $109.95 for the pass (good ONLY at Cedar Point) and $70 for Cedar Point ONLY parking. For five dollars more, you get Ohio parking (but not good outside Ohio).

Kings Island, you say? $94.95 for a season pass good ONLY at Kings Island and Boomerang Bay (NO other Cedar Fair parks) and $34.95 for Kings Island (ONLY) parking. For $41.05 more, you can get Ohio parking (but NOT good outside Ohio).

Six Flags parking passes generally cost $45 and include the ENTIRE chain of dry parks. A regular Six Flags pass gets you into ALL Six Flags dry parks (no Maxx pass needed), and is typically from $45 to $99. Six Flags passes generally do NOT include ANY waterparks, but a combo pass to include your home waterpark is sometimes available at an extra charge.

I know of nowhere in the USA where a Six Flags pass with parking will cost you $160. Not even now, during high season.

For instance, Great Adventure, the most expensive park in the Six Flags chain, currently offers season passes for $99. Season pass parking is $45. And it is good at ALL Six Flags dry parks.

In passing, is it just me, or are Cedar Fair's season pass rules just way too complicated?

Way too complicated, and I got my SF season pass this year (Kentucky Kingdom based, yuck!!) for $39.99...my Maxx Pass was (I think?) $125 with the free KI parking, though....depending on how the wind blows you can kind of scam your way to free parking at CP and GL just depending...

And besides, all my posts in this thread about Rivertown parking, etc. were all satirical....
