This might be a dumb question but i was wondering why they remove the heartline from Maverick. I should probably know this and you guys can yell at me or whatever i just have always wondered why?

^I'm still not sure how they didn't know about the rider comfort issues with all of the computer programs out there that do the math for them. And, even though I no nothing of engineering, even I knew that taking a heartline roll at 70mph was not a good idea to start with.

Actually it was the computerized "dummy" that did tip them off in the end. The forces that were exerted in the tests were too much for the human body.

Now computer programs did also play a part, but they went ahead with the heartline anyway because Intamin believed they could reduce the speed going through the tunnel, which in turn would exert less forces on the riders. Yet when they did this, it would cause valleying in the second half of the ride.

Basically it became a trial and error test. Solve one problem & create another.

Take this for what it is worth.

Computers can project the actually outcome of the forces there will always be a margin in error no matter who you are.

I also heard some rumors floating around that Cedar Point may install a longer heartline which would reduce the stress. I have rode maverick a few times this year and I can say with or without the hearline roll it is a great ride, well built, and very well desgined.

I agree. I got 6 laps this summer and it really is a fantastic ride even without it. Though I was really looking forward to that heartline... :P

One of the big shots for Intamin rode it before they removed the heartline roll, and when he came back he was supposedly sweating heavily and had an awful headache from the roll.

When people first tried to do the vertical loop back in the old days, they made circles instead of ellipses, and that resulted in massive G-forces. Excessive G-forces can lead to headaches, and even brain trauma. But that's only when your brain experience about 11 or 12 g's I think... The crystal beach cyclone had some excessive lateral G's, and as a result they had to keep a nurse on call at the station at all times because riders would come off the ride with cracked ribs.

Is graying out a cause of too many g-forces? I was just wondering if it's from G-forces or dehydration?

It better not be from dehydration with all the "small items" rules that seem to change not only from day to day but from shift to shift.

This has happened to me on several inverted coasters except Raptor and Maverick and I usually don't ride them that often. I was just concerned that I needed to take Dramamine or something to stop it from occuring.

Graying out is a resultant of your brain being compressed due to the large forces on it. Unless you've got some meds that act like a cushion, I don't think you're going to stop graying out :P

Whenever i found out they removed the heartline roll i was kind of sad because i had always thought that it would be pretty wicked to go through that. Maybe they could have moved the heartline to the little overbanked turn that goes through the first hill. That might have worked.

Man they could have used No Limits and those g's would have gone into the red, lol. What were they thinking, lol :lol:

I thought the same thing when I first saw the animation for Maverick. They probably could have saved a lot of money had they first made a NL model and put it on Coastersims.com for review. I am pretty sure most users would have commented on the heartline roll being too intense.

I heard somewhere that the roll was taken out because the force was being put on the wheel assemblies instead of being applied to the rails - which would have required them to be frequenly replaced.
