More like the theme park industry outside America continues to prosper while the industry within seems stagnant.

Currently the American park industry is pretty saturated, and there aren't too many more markets in the US that can support a major regional park at this point... Compared to other countries where there are much fewer parks, so the growth oppotunity is much bigger. (China, for instance, has a billion people but only a fraction of the number of parks in the US...)

The United States had a similar major park building boom in the 1970s, and a more limited expansion in the 1990s...
