Dragon Mountain at Marineland Theme Park

Recommended Posts

My rollercoaster riding buddy and me are taking a trip to Canada next year just to ride Behemoth. We are also making a stop at Niagara Falls to ride Dragon Mountain at Marineland Theme Park. I been to Niagara Falls many times, even have some friends there but back in the day when I went there often I wasn't into coasters that much. Just wondering has anyone rode Dragon Mountain? I know it's a old Arrow looper. All the stats on that coaster on RCDB seems to make it out to a good coaster. Just wondering what others thought of that ride.

Yeah, yeah, yeah :-) I actually enjoyed Dragon Mountain a lot. I, too, had watched it on America's Greatest Coasters.....I thought it looked rather uninspired (which it wouldn't have been, had they finished the theming plans). In any event, I ended up really liking the ride. The lift is super long, climbing up the mountain. There are actually 2 lift chains, which switch sides mid-way up the hill. The ride itself is a typical Arrow....fun first drop, two loops which caused me to actually grey out a bit. The next 1/3 of the ride is kinda slow paced, winding around in a big 360 degree helix and a tunnel before it pops up to the block brake. The best part of the ride is what follows the block. Its a crazy long tunnel that dives down inside the mountain, the train continues to pick up speed until it then drops out of the tunnel and right into the bowtie element. Its actually a hell of a finish. I'd definitely make the trip to Marineland again for a few spins if I'm ever in the area. Oh, yeah, the station is fun too :-)

From Marineland's website:

"Dragon Mountain® roller coaster - ride the world's largest steel roller coaster, Dragon Mountain® found only at Marineland®. Spread over 30 acres of land, it is the world's largest non-stop roller coaster. Dragon Mountain also features more travel through tunnels - 1,163 feet - than any other coaster in the world (48" height requirement).

my question is at 5500 ft long and 186 ft tall which is good but how does it qualify as the "world's largest non-stop rollercoaster."

Thanks all, ya I saw that on there web page too. Maybe when they built it it could hold those stats but not now. Remember we are talking Canada! From what I have seen there all flippin out about Behemoth, which if it was built here, would get some fanfair but when you have rides like MF, The Beast and SOB, it loses a little luster. I'm going to ride Behemoth becuase it's what I love about coasters, it's big and unique. That's also the same reason why I got to ride Dragon Mountain.

Love Dragon Mountian lol. That and Tennessee Tornado are my fave Arrows. Yes go on it, you might love it instead of like it, hahaha. =P Its fun and Sky Screamer is cool too.

But when we visit Marineland, majority of the stay is spent at FC seeing my fave killer whales Nootka 5, Kiska, Athena and Ike XD.

Marineland is worth one trip.

One.

Like every 10 years.

DM is a decent ride. And from what I have heard, they are starting to finish off the themeing for the volcano. Not too bad for a ride that has been around for over 20 years. My last visit was back in 2006, and even 2 years after Sky Screamer opened, the top of the mountain/ hill it was on was not completed. Putting it simply, SS is on a 150' hill that will take you about 10 minutes to get up. Once up there, you have a Port-a-John to use. No kidding.

Then again, that was in '06.

The rest of the park has a couple nice things, but for the price, it really is very expensive.

The animals seem to be underfed, and the rest of the park has various areas that seem unfinished. Along with that, you will probably do more walking from ride to ride (or attraction) and see nothing more than any other park in the World. I really am not exaggerating. The park is so spread out there really are no words that can explain it.

Marineland always has BIG plans that never, not even close, get finished on time.

One plus would be that my family went on a Saturday afternoon, and the waits were virtual walk-ons.

Ya I did a lot of Photo work for the Niagara Parks in the mid 90's and I must of passed that park at least 100 times and it seemed pretty dead all the time. Like GL kinda crowds. We are only going to the park for that one ride, and ya I see me going to that park once!

Yeah you are right about finishing attractions. It shows in that dolphin thing they are building. But the belugas next door to the killer whales flourish, a calf or two is born each season it seems. And MLC just made a trade off, they sent 3 belugas to Sea World Orlando and got Ike the killer whale in return. Now with him being trained for waterwork (meaning used to having a trainer in the water with him) they hope to resurect I'm assuming regular shows, at least in FC. But dunno when that will ever happen, but him being as good as he is, he really has lighten things up there. They do "shows" there now, since the park got rid of the whole touch and feed the killer whales, cause the orcas were never real big on it.
