i was just wondering do you think bubba gump's name will change? because yes it is from the movie forest gump but there are at least two others in the world, one in gatlanburg, tennessee and one somewhere in new york

It might be able to keep the name since it's not totally Paramount, but who knows... I think that it'll keep the name.

that is what i was thinking. beings there wasn't a bubba gump shrimp shack in the movie forest gump

I think there is a Bubba Gump's located at Daytona Beach in the place I'm going to be staying at. It's a time share. I am definitely going to give it a try.

You know, many of us "older timers" on here pine away about either bringing back, or emphasizing KI's history. Its really not that crazy of an idea. Retro has been popular in many other industries the last few years. I don't think it would be that bad of an idea for an amusement park to do the same thing. Thats one thing that the park has going for it already. Look at how much of its past is still there for people to see.

And Cedar Fair has always been a company that reveres the history of its parks, and does whatever it can to preserve and revere that history.

Well....

See, among other things, Dorney Park, Knott's Berry Farm, etc.

(Just imagine how much goodwill could have been purchased for almost nothing by merely bringing back the old Old English Font park logo)

...and who knows, maybe that is what as kept KI popular for so long. They still have the Eifel Tower, Fountains, International Street, Racer, etc. etc.

They kind of, by default, have a living museum always present.

Like a McDonald's with a 1972 decor, or a Chevy dealership with '72 Chevys still on the showroom.

And every year in between. You grew up in the '80's? Still parts of it there. Etc., etc.

I say, just give the stuff that's always been there its original name back. You still need to add the new stuff to stay alive, just embrace whats already (and has been) there.

Yeah, I really agree with the logo, too...

Cedar Fair does NOT own Paramount. They own Paramount Parks, which is a whole different horse.

And the color of that horse keeps changing. What color do you like this year?

I think and hope that the name Bubba Gump will change and all movie pictures and motifs will go away.

My best guess is that the menu will stay the same and the new name will be something LIKE Cajun Shrimp Shack and the name of Lt. Dan's Bar will be something LIKE Bayou Bar.

That's what I would do.

Best regards,

Italian Chef

I would think that unless CF does not want to have Bubba Gump as a franchise, it would stay the way it is now.

And since it appears that CF would rather have a franchise (TGI Fridays, Famous Dave's, Chick-fil-a, Johnny Rockets, Panda Express etc.) there is a good chance it will stay.

...except I don't believe the license is from the restaurant company, but rather from Viacom and Meridian, who may not be interested in renewing it, since Viacom would no longer be dealing with a sister company, who may have gotten special consideration. Note that the restaurant company is not offering US franchises. I don't know whether that is because of their own financial considerations or terms of any agreement between Viacom and Paramount Parks, or for some other reason.

The last Bubba Gump just opened October 27th, 2007, and was announced in July 2007.

The only reasons for not allowing more at this point could be a water-down effect. Much like the current Quizno's issue happening.

What is the current Quizno's issue?

Too many over priced sandwich shops on the market?

^ Something like that. ;)

Quiznos has been opening an absurd amount of stores over the last 3 to 4 years. Each franchise costs about $300,000, about 10% of your sales goes back to Quiznos, and you have to purchase all your food, supplies, and equipment from Quiznos. And over 60% end up failing for various reasons, the biggest reason being that they are overpriced compared to Subway.

Well even though the business fails, the owners still have to pay Quiznos the $300,000.

^ yep, that's the way a franchise works.

In the big scheme of things, $300K isn't that high for a franchise start-up (which, the lower cost barrier is probably why so many 'chees end up failing.) Subway's franchise start-up costs are pretty low too, which is why they have more stores than McDonalds now.

When I was in the hospitality biz, I spent quite a bit of time working on the franchise side of the business. It's very interesting, but one thing that was always clear--the franchisor (not the franchisee) always has the upper hand.

Well $300,000 is about the price of two subs.

The owners should have that covered easy!

Not to mention that Quizno's subs are not that great to be charging such a high price. And now, Subway has toasted subs, so no need to spend extra money for that.

Only problem with Subway is that they may toast it but it's never very warm.

In Cincy ya'll should never have to go to a Quizno's or Subway.

There are far too many good Deli's and Bagel Shops.

Well, Wooferbear, here in Huntington, West Virginia, I never have had a lukewarm or cold toasted sub from Subway. Maybe it's a problem in your area?

It could be.

That is the main reason that I usually only get cold standwiches if I go to Subway.

For a hot sandwich I normally like the Pizza Places better anyway.
