SFNE Dark Knight Construction HALTED

Recommended Posts

Well, there's that and the generally terrible relationship with the community's leaders up there that Six Flags has created for itself. Last year, they strongly advocated a local ordinance making private parking of cars in yards, businesses, etc., illegal without a municipal permit. It was a pretty transparent attempt to prop up the expensive, exclusive parking at Six Flags. The ordinance backfired, and was eventually repealed.

From article #1:

"This building has been being built. It had to have been being built for a couple of months."

Wha? Is that even remotely proper grammar?

Seems to me that saying "This building is already being built. It had to have been under construction for a couple of months" would make much more sense.

Oy vey

Wow. Just wow!

Having worked in numerous architectural office on co-op jobs, I`ve had to deliver CDs to numerous building departments and apply for the building permits. Why anyone would start major construction before obtaining the building permits is beyond me! What it sounds like actually may have happened, is that they submitted the drawings to be reviewed, and were not granted the building permit due to some issues that had to be resolved. Had they resolved those issues, they could have been granted the building permit and proceeded with construction.

However, it seems as if Six Flags started construction after they got notified they did not receive the building permit, and before they could submit the revised drawings to see if they remedied the errors or lack of information in the construction documents.

Depending what the exact issue is, the building department could order them to tear down part of the building if it was not properly designed/specified in the original drawings that the building department has on file.

Now in all fairness to Six Flags, this may in fact not be there problem. They might have contracted with a local architect to provide all the construction documents for the project. And depending on how the contract is set up, it may be the responsibility of the architectural office to pull the building permits for the project.

"I can assure you that safety is our No. 1 priority," she said. "We will absolutely have everything in place to operate this ride in a safe manner."

Even though comments like this need to be said by media/ human relation type people, the first thing that came to my mind was the SFKK incident.

They "proceeded with construction at their own risk"? Seems a little odd to me. I mean, if they hadn`t been granted a building permit, why were they building anything to begin with. Granted, fire suppression systems are one of the last elements to be installed, but still. If they don`t have a building permit, why were they building anything? I just find it a little odd.

Sometimes, if all the drawings are not completed for a project they will get different permits at different times. I`ve worked on a project where a foundation permit was secured to begin site excavation and foundation work, while we continued to work on the construction documents, before submitting them for a building permit.

The next to last paragraphs of this article:

probably have a LOT to do with this.

...

Tomorrow in Agawam, the City Council Ordinance and Zoning Subcommittees will meet jointly to discuss parking issues near Six Flags New England on Main Street.

The panels will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the library....
