Outdoor Man
intriguing that the whole history, tradition, nostalgia card was played at Geauga Lake also.... where have I heard that before? off topic, but does anyone buy the whole tradition/nostalgia thing? WooferBearATL
intriguing that the whole history, tradition, nostalgia card was played at Geauga Lake also.... where have I heard that before? off topic, but does anyone buy the whole tradition/nostalgia thing? I think that it's a good marketing technique. From reports of those that have been to the park, the entire concept seems to be legit and effective. Now that being said, I don't buy it that tradition/nostalgia was the reason that The Racer was turned around. (But the, I can't imagine anyone believes that was the reason.) Browntggrr
intriguing that the whole history, tradition, nostalgia card was played at Geauga Lake also.... where have I heard that before? off topic, but does anyone buy the whole tradition/nostalgia thing? Why should CF not take that approach? GL was hurting before CF took over, so if GL had any chance to rebound under CF's ownership, they had to take GL back to it's heyday. There were just too many things against them to actually save GL. And the whole tradition/ nostalgia angle is really based upon how you want to look at it. Just like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Yes, KI has stopped promoting movies through it's rides. The park has also stopped advertising movies through billboards that were almost 10 years old. CF has taken a fresh approach to what made the park great before Paramount.
The Interpreter
More details, including that ACE has given up on trying to save the coaster itself: http://www.sanduskyregister.com/articles/2...ront/747357.txt
erniebald57
preserve the villian??? gimme a break. Dipper needs to find a new home. One of the oldest coasters operating in the world, and still a good ride. It would be a shame if the Dipper doesn't make it. Cedar Fair should ship it to one of their parks and give it new life. The economics of it aren't that bad considering the historical value of the ride.
Outdoor Man
i feel for those in the marketing department- because just because you put lipstick on the pig doesn't mean that it ceases to be a pig. Nothing wrong with KI at all.... still a tremendous park... i'm just playing with the whol "nostalgia" message. Other than new shows, and being cleaner, oh- and the reversal of The Racer nothing sticks out as historic/nostalgic. for example: Nostalgic: GONE: Swan Lake- what's nostalgic about that? Nostalgic: ARRIVED: new eateries and shops on IS.... nothing to do with original theme. Nostalgic: original landscaping- nothing really strikes me as original. and the list could continue- but I think it's interesting that that this message has become the marketing mantra for the season. Don't get me wrong- love the park. Family and I have been numerous times already with passes- it just strikes me as a lame marketing message for a new season. They are obviously building something BIG-- why not play off that? It's not like some day in July/August when they decide to come out with the details people are all of a suddne going to realize that they are doing more than scouring the bottom of the lake for bodies- or finally removing the Winterfest trees (after 3 seasons). The Interpreter
Why not? Because when you market this early what you are going to have next year...many would-be guests will decide to wait until next year to visit...and you can't take that chance.
