Well. She has a right to wear her hair as she sees fit. However, once hired to work at Canada`s Wonderland, you have to abide by their grooming and dress standards. The park has a certain image they are trying to convey to the general public. While she may not think dreadlocks are extreme, the park obviously does. If she needed the job that badly, she would have adjusted her appearance to conform with the park`s policy. She can`t expect the park to may an exception to their rules for her, because then where would they draw the line with exceptions?

Most amusement parks have grooming and dress codes. Even Coney has a grooming policy that all employees are expected to follow, in terms of length of hair, style, color (ie, not hair that is dyed radical colors), and facial hair.

And yet, Cedar Fair is operating a park in Canada, where employment laws are very, very different than in the United States of America. I hope for their sake they consulted learned local counsel before taking this action, as they may find themselves shortly dealing with the local Human Rights Council or its equivalent. Employment at will as such simply does not exist in Canada. Contrary to many Americans' opinions, Canada is neither the fifty-first state nor USA-lite, as many an American without proper automobile insurance has discovered after having a motor vehicle accident in that country. Suffice it to say in the latter situation, unless you have with you proof of insurance, you can expect to spend an extended stay in the local hoosegow until you prove you are financially able to handle any liability.

It is funny that the article mentions that she worked at ACC, but does not mention what she actually did there. If it was something behind the scenes, yeah, nobody would care what her hair looked like. And given that she is just 18, and she was hired for games at CW, I doubt she had much contact with the guests at ACC, or she would have probably been in food & beverage at the park too.

Yeah, Canada is actually much more proactive on this type of thing.

I actually applaud her for standing up for her beliefs.

I was not that bright when I was her age. I had shaved my beard for employment in the past. There is not a chance that I'd do it in this day and age.
