BoddaH1994
Word on the street is that the anticipated crowds for May 24th will be rather manageable. Many people are expected to show up in the few hours leading up to the event at 7pm. So feel free to enjoy the park that day and make sure you get to your seats early to see Kaptain Knievel do his thing!!
BavarianBeatle
Ive bee reading your posts. As always, they are very informative. Thank you!!!!! But someone at work asked if they will be able to buy the grandstand tickets at the park tomorrow or are they only available online?? I had to say that I didn't know....... BoddaH1994
Hmmm.... I don't have an answer to that one. My GUESS is that they're online only, but I don't know that for sure. It'd be well worth asking at GR when they get there. Make sure to let them know to purchase them soon, tickets are going fast!!!
BavarianBeatle
I will tell her at work in the morning. We are both leaving at noon for KI!!! Thank God for comp time and an understanding boss!!!!!!! (your salary is based on hours......If your work is done and you have your hours in, feel free to take Friday afternoon off) I will tell her to check at GR!!! Thanks again for everything, Michael
MarketingExpress
I would actually expect a good size crowd, not solely because of the jump though, but more because it is Memorial Day Weekend.
The Interpreter
Me, too....and one of the best ways to be sure to have a crowd is to tell people you expect a light day...otherwise, Yogi-ism might strike: "No one goes there any more, it's too popular!" FrankNfreak
I will use the jump as an opportunity to hit some rides while everyone is watching. I mean..this isn't Big Evel we're talking about here...it's his son. Evel rode big bulky Harley dirtbikes and he used to wing it...no practice. Evel didn't have engineers, meteorolgists, and physicists working on his jumps. I mean this guy knows what speed he has to maintain...wind direction...temperature. There is nothing death defying about his leap. It's a slam dunk jump on a light weight Japanese made bike.

You know, at the press conference Knievel joked several times that he'd be willing to split his earnings with anyone who would want to dress up like him and do the jump for him. He said he'd be willing to do the publicity stuff. Since you seem to have all of this figured out, why don't you catch up with him this week and take him up on that? It'd be an easy way to make a quick buck.

OK, as a biker and a guy that grew up watching Evel, please tell me how Evel "Winged" it. On a side note, I've asked several people that don't seem to know, either. What/who is the pic on your avatar?

What/who is the pic on your avatar? Evel didn't have the team of people who did all the calculations for the jump like Robbie does...I grew up watching Evel too. If your a biker than you know that Evel used old Harley AMF dirtbikes that weighed a ton...Robbie uses lightweight rice burners. There is not the level of danger with Robbie's jumps as there is with Evel's. Jasper
Not as far as mass advertising goes. Even though i did hear a KI commercial on the radio the other day.

DropZone99
So far i have heard nothing of the big jump in Richmond. Well i havent heard anything about the jump here in Indy either, but last year when Firehawk came out they had some pretty neat billboards around town though! Jasper
Last year when Firehawk debuted half the people down here didnt even know about it until they went to the park and came back and were like hey did you know KI got a new ride.
BavarianBeatle
Just a note, but since so many people will be coming to the park on the 24th, the evening of Friday the 23rd should be very light. We went last year the night before Firehawk opened and the place was empty. So, we will be there Friday. Looks like we will miss Saturday. It looks like about the only time I can get the family together for my son's birthday......

WooferBearATL
Sorry.. I thought you was a real biker..I used to run with Horsemen up in Hamilton..we rode real bikes..Harleys Well Mr. deerhunter, if ya had a Harley it probably looked perty but it's not likely ya road it. Harley's are nice to look at. But when you're lookin at em they're usually in the shop being repaired. His Honda would probably look really silly passing your Harley at 130mph on the open road. LOL, thanks for the support Boddah but it's not a sport bike. I'd hate the thought of taking a cruiser up to 130. Not sure how anyone can ride them crotch rockets.
