May 29, 200818 yr From a Detroit paper (one of Cedar Point's prime target markets, and one that is economically hurting): http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?A...ENT05/805280308
May 29, 200818 yr Interesting considering Dick Kinzel is or was so convinced that attendance would be up this year based on people staying closer to home to vacation.
May 29, 200818 yr ^I've been hearing about this new phenomenon called "Staycations" because of the economy woes. I wonder how many of KI's visitors come from within the 50-mile circle?
May 29, 200818 yr Interesting considering Dick Kinzel is or was so convinced that attendance would be up this year based on people staying closer to home to vacation. If he were actually so convinced, there would not be such deep discounts. Mr. Kinzel is not the only one that is guilty of making these claims. The chain that numbers it's flags has made similar comments and have slashed it's prices similar and more drastically than CF.
May 29, 200818 yr I have been to the park two times this year and attendance was higher than I thought it would be. I wouldn't say it's looks like it's going bad yet. My brother in Florida said they had to close the gates at Seaworld on Saturday because it was so packed.
May 29, 200818 yr Now the question is, is attendance up due to gas prices or the deep discounts? That is, if in fact attendance is up.

My dad always brought our families on those and he called them that too. We would go on little day trips throughout the summer in an effort to save money.
May 29, 200818 yr You could look at these packages from a different angle. Perhaps offering these discounts will get people off the hedge and spend money by going to the park that they were not planning to spend due to the price increase for everyday items. For example: the wife and I were not going to put down mulch this summer, but with the discount that Home Depot had over the weekend, it was a no- brainer to go ahead and pull the trigger and put down fresh mulch.

If there wasn't a problem (or an anticipated problem), Cedar Fair and Six Flags would have no reason to lower prices...

CF's new version of pricing integrity is making Mr. Kinzel's prediction a self-fulfilling prophecy!
