Well, after work today, my two boys and I decided to go to the park. They kind of wanted to play basketball with the new hoop I put up this week, but I subtly talked them into going. We had a rough start as rush hour traffic made the ride to the park a little long, but we got into the park shortly before 6:00. Their spirits rose when they saw many school busses leaving the parking lot as we parked and walked in.

We started with the traditional first ride on The Beast, and waited about 15 minutes or so. Then ate at the Rivertown LaRosas. We decided to skip BLSC because the fire effect wasn't working and rode Vortex in the back with about a three or four train wait. Then we rode Zypher and saw some kids get kicked off the ride for sitting on the rails, twisting the chains and generally being unruly....... First time I saw that this year. (Kudos to that ride op!!!!!).

Then the Red Racer..... We had seen that they were racing the trains the whole time we had been in Coney, but our train left alone. Then we saw that the blue train was stuck at the top of the lift hill. Some girls in the stuck train started booing as we went by and my kids started chanting "You're stuck!! You're stuck!!" (Like the infamous "You suck" chant). I told them to shut up immediately then had a little talk with them after the ride about Karma........

Then AE, the typical walk on....After that it was over to Action Zone where they fought about Drop Tower. My oldest (9 years old) is afraid of it, so I made the "executive decision" that we would skip it and the bickering that would result. So, next was SOB, where we rode in the back and had a surprisingly smooth ride on the blue train. When we got back to the station, my youngest son's hair was sticking straight up in the front. Even I had to laugh!! Needless to say, I then had to diffuse another "situation". Sigh..........

Then uneventful rides on Flight Deck and Fairly Odd Coaster, before the, again traditional, last nighttime ride on The Beast. It was a very short wait in the station, but the ride ops all recognized me and my children. Our favorite ride op saw them and smiled, called them by name, and gave them a high five as their restraints were checked. Then she had the driver ask them to raise their hands and introduce them as "our friends here on The Beast" or something like that (I didn't really hear because the kids were both excited and yelling)..... They were absolutely thrilled!! I can't say enough good things about those ride operators!!!

Then we went to the front of the park, watched the fireworks with the fountains and the Eiffel Tower in the foreground... (I'm still not tired of that sight after watching it for over 30 years).... We talked about how we were all very happy that this was the first night this season that we could wear shorts and t-shirts at night and watch the fireworks comfortably. It was perfect!!

Now the point of this post....... On the ride home, the three of us talked, laughed, and continued to have fun. All of the small troubles of the day were completely forgotten. Hearing them tell me what a great evening it turned out to be is what KI (and, in some ways, life in general) is all about in my mind........

Thanks for reading,

Michael

That sounds really nice. Trips like that are what KI is all about.

lol who really knows...he may either be in complete shock that he was beat or proud..not really sure, one way to find out lol ;)

I think that it will probably be when we here a report that "Little Chef has gotten too old to ride SDATHC." Then we'll know what happened.

I am proud (or sad) to admit that Little Chef is better at lightsaber fighting than me. We have toy lightsabers at home and play Star Wars.

Though I obviously go easy on him and play total defense, my son is very aggressive and avoids my many of my blocks. Hence, I get hit by his lightsaber blows.

We decided to skip BLSC because the fire effect wasn't working

Heh....have fun never riding it again then!!! ;)

I don't necessarily have a problem with that........ After only three years, the sprinklers don't work, the fire is apparently gone, the on ride audio never worked and I never really thought the ride was all that great to begin with. Plus, the effects entertained the kids, who now think the ride is boring without them. The ride has become an afterthought in our daily routine at the park, meaning that, we will ride it after we have done everything else, but only if the line is short.

Ahhh....I see....yeah, I won't ride if it's more than 3 rails in the main queue switchback....
