June 16, 200818 yr Kings Island isn't the only park in this group that I am planning to go to this summer. I am going to the one in Charlotte less than 2 weeks after getting home from Ohio. I know the one at Carowinds the Drop Zone is designed more like the one that was at Six Flags KK....but does anyone have this crazy thought (other than me) that they are still not safe to go on? I know the people I am going with to KI are going on, but my aunt who I am going with to Carowinds hasn't been back on it since she was on the ride when it malfunctioned and they were stuck at the top. Its one of my fave rides, but I am so hesitant about it now.
June 16, 200818 yr They are all safe! I wouldn't pass it up while your there, they're alot of fun. Have a great time.
June 16, 200818 yr You owe it to yourself to ride it. It's an awesome experience. You'll be just fine.
June 16, 200818 yr If you are willing to ride to the park in an automobile, you are doing something far more dangerous than riding any ride in the park, including Drop Tower.
June 16, 200818 yr It's the best thing in the park. Carowind's Drop Tower is called a SECOND GENERATION Drop Tower. Drop Tower at KI is a THIRD GENERATION. It's a whole different ride, imo. And they haven't had any problems. Wait....what the heck is Drop Zone?
June 16, 200818 yr It's fine. It's safe. I highly suggest going on it as it is one of the best Flat (or, well,) rides at the park. Best way at Kings Island to get your heart beating and your pants peeing!
June 16, 200818 yr Go for it. I don't like it personally, only because I don't like having someone else control when it drops. Once you're going.....cool......
June 16, 200818 yr Go if you wish. Personally, i'm freaked of heights and i've seen the ride get stuck at the very top, so i'll never go on it again. But people seem to love it and from what others have said, it's safe.
June 16, 200818 yr Drop Zone is probly the number one safe ride at KI. It needs to be number 1 safe ride at that. Its fun! if this is your first ride on it, keep your eyes open til the top and then close em its fun
June 17, 200818 yr The Drop Tower is an exhilarating ride, probably the best airtime in the park However I will cite one negative aspect about it. Due to the nature of the seating arrangement, I particularly don't like my 7-year-old son to ride it. It's hard to explain, but if something were to happen to his over-the-shoulder restraint, there'd be nothing I could do but sit there and watch him potentially fall out of the ride and meet his end. This of course is very unlikely - but the fact remains, every time my son rides this with me, I cringe. I just feel very trapped on it (by design of course) but moreso than other over-the-shoulder rides. At least on Vortex, Top Gun, etc, I feel like I'd have a fighting chance of keeping him from falling out if his restraint fails. I don't have that feeling on Drop Zone (or Delirium either). I know it's largely irrational, but it's just a primal/parental instinct I guess. I also have a nearly religious amount of respect and reverence for heights, which I'm sure adds to it.
June 17, 200818 yr I just feel very trapped on it (by design of course) but moreso than other over-the-shoulder rides. I see where your coming from, but that feeling of being trapped is to keep someone from wiggling out if the seat 300 feet up in the air. I am not a fan of heights, but I will ride Drop Tower and other rides like it because I feel secure and safe with the restraints used.
June 17, 200818 yr Author I have been on this ride at both parks in the past, its not a matter of being scared of heights (which I am....I just look straight out) its just the safety factor. But my friend and brother are like you gotta ride on it, and said the same thing as people here have said, if Cedar Fair didn't think it was safe they wouldn't have it open.
June 17, 200818 yr I read Drop Zone so i could just not ressit reading this. Yes i highly recomend riding it. Even though you will be scared the whole way up on the way down you will love it and you will want more and more of it.

You shoudnt worry about the restraint failing, If any restraint problems, the ride is lowerd at a very slow speed. I wouldnt worry about drop zone restraints failing anytime soon at all.
June 17, 200818 yr I rode The "Tower" yesterday. Just as fun as I remember it as always. After 20 mins of trying to get my friends wife to ride she finally accepted and off we went. She was scared the whole time but after we got off she told me she was glad she went and I was able to get her on it after her grandkids and family were never able to. I recommend the ride to anyone....its not as bad as it looks.
June 17, 200818 yr that ride is INCREDIBLY dangerous! be smart and make the right decision! How do you figure?

How it feels like your stomach is going up into your chest
July 2, 200818 yr If you are willing to ride to the park in an automobile, you are doing something far more dangerous than riding any ride in the park, including Drop Tower. That's along the lines of what I was thinking as well. This year was actually the first time I ever rode Drop Tower. It wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it'd be, but it was fun.
