ZukoGirl
Ok I feel alittle silly about this but I want to get on The Beast but I'm scared. It's not even the ride it's self that's bothering me. It's the drop, no take that back "The First Drop" . Ridiculous right? I mean... It's the one phobia that gets me with some coasters. I don't have a problem with the other drops during a ride at all. I guess what I am asking is for some suggestions on this. I feel like if I could just get past the first drop I'll be okay. P.S. I hope I gave enough info. BoddaH1994
I say just make yourself ride it. Worst case scenario is that you don't want to ride it again. The ride gives you a great 'out of control' feeling, but is far from what most would consider intense. Many of us have ridden The Beast countless times and can assure you that it's completely safe and bearable.
Hank
Actually, the first drop isn't that bad at all. The angle is not that great, so you don't get that "head over heals" feeling and the speed is just right to keep you in your seat without feeling like there's nothing under you. Going into the tunnel makes you forget there was a hill. Oh, and don't forget to smile for the picture on the way down!

Going into the tunnel makes you forget there was a hill. Oh, and don't forget to smile for the picture on the way down! In other words, the first hill doesn't have any airtime I could swear it had more airtime 25 years ago when I was a kid but some say it hasn't changed. ZukoGirl, I think there's a brake that keeps you from gaining speed until you're already a third of the way down the hill. Don't let the first hill scare ya. In my opinion, the helix at the end is much more intense with its out-of-control theme. (not sure if THAT will help you or not ) Have you ridden Vortex? I think its hill is more intense than The Beast hill. So if you can handle Vortex, then Beast should be no problem. Go for it!
The Interpreter
And know that whether you adore coasters or you end up not liking some, either is okay. Do NOT let your friends coerce you into riding, or not riding, whatever you like. It's all up to you. And only you.
dakota2112
I also want to add this... I will fully admit that the first time I rode Son of Beast, I was a little scared. It was the tallest coaster I'd ever been on, I wasn't sure what to expect, and that first hill looked intimidating. So you're not alone. But that pulse-raising sense of fear is part of what thrill rides are all about - it's a safe way to get an adrenaline rush. Hope that helps! MarketingExpress
I have heard that closing your eyes helps out while going down the first hill. You should be able to feel once you get to the tunnel and then you can open them and enjoy the rest of the ride. Do you have the same problem on the hill after the 2nd lift? stewwill
You always feel better about yourself if you can face down your fear. Take someone you really trust, pick a car in the middle of the train. Take deep breaths. Remember that thousands of other people ride The Beast. As the train leaves the station, think of places you really enjoy, or someone you like. As you get close to the top, hold on tighter. As you reach the crest of the lift hill, close your eyes. Going down, the hill isn't violent or very jarring. It's over in a few seconds. When you do it once and realize it wasn't as bad as you thought, you will be fine. Nothing wrong about being scared. But once you take the first ride, you won't be able to get on quickly enough. Good luck.
The Interpreter
And pick a seat in the middle of the car...not just the middle of the train. The middle seats of cars are far, far smoother than the backs, and somewhat smoother than the fronts....
cassie_KY
I had a very bad experience with Firehawk (Sorry folks!) and I was rather intimindated by Beast. I rode it and, honestly, the first hill is not bad. I picked a middle seat and looked at the back of the head of the person in front of me so I would not be looking around (or down!). The person I rode with chatted at me as a distraction and it was over before I knew it. Now, I can look around and am very comfortable with the ride. It's my favorite! Thrill_Biscuit
The first drop on Beast looks more intimidating than it really is, because the beautiful Little Miami Valley landscape beyond the coaster continues to slope away, making it feel higher. It really is more like going on a wild sled ride, because most of the coaster is terrain-following. The second lift goes into a double helix that feels like a giant version of a 'Himalaya' ride at a country fair...fun! Ride and enjoy! KIBeast
I say take a chance and ride The Beast. I know what you are feeling, though. I didn't ride The Beast in its' first few years. Really, I can't remember why now. It must have been the height of the lift hill, because that's about all you can see from the midway. Don't feel bad. My mother had to bribe me with a dollar to ride The Racer when it was the premier coaster at KI. I always wanted to ride Racer until we got into the station. At that point, that's when I started to panic.
iChase
Totally go for it. Look at it this way, you aren't going to get hurt, especially not by the first hill. Just think about something to take your mind off the drop. It's over before you know it. Then you'll be off through the woods having fun. ZukoGirl
Thanks you guys for encouraging me. You all were all big help. Now hopefully sometime next week I can face The Beast Once and again and enjoy it. I guess the thing that made me scared in the first place is an incident that happen when I was 8 years old. Every since then I have been alittle intimdated about riding bigger coasters. But now that fear is dying down. Only thing left to do is face The Beast again. I can't thank you guys enough. deb
I've been a rollercoaster fan since the 90s. But I'm terrified of heights. going up, I concentrate on the floor, the track, or with FH, the interior of my eyelids until that fab flip. I can't handle knowing I'm getting closer to space, but hey, as long as the ground is there, I'm all for it! What can I say, it's comforting seeing where I'm going. Top of the first hill on The Beast, all I see is track and concrete tunnel before I lose my seat for about 10 seconds! And that second drop, my fav. All drops should have a twist like that helix. exhilaration! deb

BavarianBeatle
I've ridden coasters and other rides for many years. I am scared of heights too, but now, because I have kids, I get to ride Drop Tower on a regular basis. My advice to you is to just ride The Beast a few times, like I had to do with DT. Once I walked away unharmed a few times, I got used to the ride and I can now ride it and actually enjoy it without feeling like I'm going to have a heart attack every time I hang there at the top. Hopefully, you can have a similar experience with The Beast...Good Luck!!!!

What happened if you don't mind me asking? Well in summer of 1999 just before I had turned 9 My family went to Kings Island for 4th of July. And at the time I really wanted to get big coasters because I had never before. So after being Hanna Barbara and I got bored I guess and wanted to try to something else so.. My Mama told me about the legendry Beast I so I naively ran in line not knowing what to expect. So when I can time to get in the seats Mama started to get a little worried because I was very tiny for my age. She pushed the lap bar all the way down and I still had alot of space left between me and the lapbar. But I didn't care I still wanted to ride. So it took off and I was excited and a little nervous but anyways when it went down I was in the shock off my life. I realized then this wasn't like some kiddie coaster. My Mama had to put her arm over me to keep me from falling out of the seat. I guess the G-forces got to me or something because I felt horrible, like my body was being crushed or something. After the first tunnel I screamed, hollered and cried through the rest of the thing. "Stop the ride" and "Let me off" are the only things I remember saying. Then it went to the second lift and I thought the coaster was repeating it's self which made me even more upset. After the ride was over I hoped out of the car and ran off crying to my Granny. The picture came back and it was so embarrassing. The top half of my body was bented over the the lapbar to my knees. And after that I've always been traumatized and apprehensive about rollercoasters. Or really any ride. I even had a fit getting on The Beastie. But it's not like that now with some rides. So that's my story hope it wasn't to long. But now I want to try again with The Beast or as they say tame The Beast or something.
