Vortex Gone in 04?

well i guess that answers our question, there was a lake before Vortex was put there!

There was not a lake present before The Vortex was built in '84. If there had been one in that place at anytime, it would have been drained before The Bat was built in '81. And it may, or may not have been a lake at all. It could have been wetlands which have standing water in a particular area during the course of a year.

I have also heard this sinking rumor about The Vortex for several years now. I don't believe it one bit. If The Vortex were sinking though, my best GUESS would be that PKI would use hydraulic jacks to move the supports up one at a time and then place steel spacers underneath.

The lake or wetlands that were once there should have been dried up by now, unless a natural spring is underneath there. In that case the soil may still be wet enough to cause a problem. The past 20 years or so a coaster has been on this land and neither of the two seem to have much of a structural issue.

Vortex is still there. I rode it Saturday. It's not gone in 04. If any more evidence of the "sinking" theory surfaces, we'll start a new topic, but this is turning into a rumor mill.. Closing..
