Diamondback Construction Thread (Updated 3-19-09)

Featured Replies

Pout. I finally get to see the webcam during the day (usually it's not working when I look at it) and it would figure that they don't appear to be running tests. I have yet to catch a train on the track on the webcam.

Just a random question did anyone see how long it took to drain the splashdown pool?

^

Well I read somewhere that on Griffon, it takes about 10-12 minutes to fully drain it.

I don't know if that's the same for DB, but I guess that would give you a guesstimate.

So why didn't they just wait till the landscape was done to fill the splashdown for the first time?

Probably so that they could test it with the trains to see exactly what it would do.

I wonder if for grass they'll use sod or seed? It seems there won't be a need for a sprinkler system...

My guess would be seed. Sodding is a bit more involved. Rolling out lush, beautiful, green, ready-to-go grass and laying it down piece by piece can be a bit expensive.

Then again, it gives you your desired result much more quickly. Though, I suppose much of the answer to "seed or sod" will depend on just how much of either they'll need. The more rocks, boulders, trees etc that occupy the area, the less grass they'll need to fill the remaining space.

well i don't know if they still do this, but when i moved to dayton in '99 they had these giant rolls of sod that they layed down, but when i moved to c-bus in '05, they had little 2ft by 4ft rectangles they layed down, which got moved around when it rained unfortunately

Haha there sure won't because the snake playing in that pool is known to make a big splash!

I would imagine they will hydroseed the area. Very cost effective and great results.

I would say we will know more on that depending on how much longer they wait....and if they plan on having it growing by opening day. Time will tell very soon.

I say they roll out the AstroTurf.

Ah, yes. Another homage to our friends, the Brady Bunch!

Hahahaha

One of our families favorite shows...well my moms.

Well, if they do astroturf it up, I'd be more than happy to take care of the mowing for the park.

I'm sure the person (people) who mow KI's grass gets a decent wage

^ good luck with the business in this economy ;)

When I first read this, I didn't catch the sarcastic wink at the end so I was sitting at my computer dumbfounded until I realized it was there.

Haha that a funny one! Here is a picture of the rocks I circled and also looks to be a crane for them as well :)

Please, dear Lord, no.

Somebody doesnt like astroturf

I have never been on astroturf but i know i hate the turf that alot of high schools are getting for their football fields. I like it all natural.

The following is NOT a political comment, but a mere statement of fact.

A former President of the United States often boasted he had had Astroturf in the back of his pick-up truck. Then came an all-knowing wink.

They planted the grass last fall after the splashdown was done being poured. There are many pictures of the area with a decent amount of grass while they were just starting vertical construction. There will be little to no need for any more seed or sod because the grass will just grow back once it gets warm enough. They did a very nice job keeping the area clear of machinery so the grass that's already there won't be disturbed. There will probably be some places that will need to be re-done, but most of it has been taken care of.

I do remember during last year's Haunt, there was grass. That is IF I remember correctly.. Maybe I remember the grass from one of my visits in July? Who knows.
