Oldschool75 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I haven't been to KI this year, but it seems that everyone is reporting that the Viking Fury is always closed. This seems to be a pattern of the past right before a ride goes bye bye. Can anyone confirm any news about the Viking Fury? Quote
FireBeast Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Every time I've been this year, its was open. Quote
Phantom Theater Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 When I went it was closed.I hope it doesnt go,I hate it when rides are demolished, even if their not at KI. Quote
flightoffear1996 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Its not going any where. its a fun ride and looks great on the lake. Quote
Dvo Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Yeah, the Viking Ship at KI is one of the best ones I've been on due to its location on the pond. Not to mention the ship itself is beautiful (I'm looking at you, Ocean Motion!). Quote
kiruler102 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 ya its a lot more thrilling then river jammer at coney island which goes so so slow. 1 Quote
gigacoaster2k Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I hate it when rides are demolished, even if their not at KI. I thought I was the only one. I was crushed when they closed Americana, my dad used to take me there when I was little. I know that there are several thrill rides and coasters that if they ever tore down, they would have to medicate me heavily from going into a severe depression. Quote
italianchef Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I have been to KI 25 time this year and don't recall ever seeing Viking Fury closed. Quote
BavarianBeatle Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I haven't seen it closed much either. Remember that most of the flat rides are not operating during the Haunt... And besides, if they removed Viking Fury, what else would they put there? Quote
CoastersRZ Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 It is the "River Runner" at Coney, not the River Jammer. And have you ridden the River Runner at Coney? It goes just about as fast as Viking Fury, and can produce some wicked air in the extreme rows. I know that it certainly got plenty of people to have protein spills this year at Coney. Quote
MarketingExpress Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I don't see them closing it considering they did some major work on it over the offseason. Quote
XGatorHead 8904 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 It was closed yesterday, but I just chalked it up to staffing issues. I don't see them removing it anytime soon, it's a good little flat. 1 Quote
Stewart32 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Wow, If removed (which I doubt) this ride would be the last of three. Remember the ferris wheel and Der Spinin Keggars? Quote
Rollercoast19 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I don't see them closing it considering they did some major work on it over the offseason. What major work did they do? Quote
Justin_M17 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I hope it doesn't close! I love the screaming contests Plus, it's the only ride my gf will let me ride within twenty minutes of eating -.- Quote
RailRider Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Hmmm well the Dippin Dots guy told me that Viking Fury was going to be removed with Vortex next seasson to make way for the new attraction in 2010. A B&M Inverted coaster that you Stand on. I know crazy right? It will be called King Cobras Revenge Quote
WooferBearATL Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Wow, If removed (which I doubt) this ride would be the last of three. Remember the ferris wheel and Der Spinin Keggars? Are you thinking that there have only been three rides in Oktoberfest? ...... WooferBear directs Stewart to the History Section of website....... Quote
CoastersRZ Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Yep. Refer to the history section of this website for more rides that used to reside in the Oktoberfest area of Kings Island. Keep in mind that the Festhaus is not original to the park and was added to the park in 1983, when the park was eleven years old. Quote
Thrill_Biscuit Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Well if they ever did, I'd hope the replacement would be something like Berzerker, or a Vekoma Air Jumper. Quote
WooferBearATL Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Yep. Refer to the history section of this website for more rides that used to reside in the Oktoberfest area of Kings Island. Keep in mind that the Festhaus is not original to the park and was added to the park in 1983, when the park was eleven years old. Infact, most of the area where Festhaus is was devoted to "Stadium of the Stars." Quote
Outdoor Man Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 One of my memories of KI of years ago were the screaming matches on Viking Fury of "TASTES GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" "LESS FILLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" like a dingus I remember a few years ago trying to start that again one time and the ride ops tried to quiet us down. Any insight as to that? Also- does anyone know the ridership of it? Wouldn't surprise me to see it quietly removed with no replaced ride. When was the last time they used the turnstyles? Quote
flightoffear1996 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I saw them using the turnstyles on the Robbie Kneviel jump day. Quote
Guest TombraiderTy Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I think Viking Fury could maybe use a new coat of paint, but it is definitely one of the best "smaller" rides at Kings Island. I'd hate to see it go. Yep. Refer to the history section of this website for more rides that used to reside in the Oktoberfest area of Kings Island. Keep in mind that the Festhaus is not original to the park and was added to the park in 1983, when the park was eleven years old. Actually, Festhaus was open for Winterfest in 1982. Quote
WooferBearATL Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Viking Fury has always been a good and steady ride. Can't see it leaving the park any time soon. Quote
CoastersRZ Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Actually, the whole "Tastes Great" "Less Filling" thin has been heard at Coney on the new River Runner several times this year. In fact, on the last weekend of operations, I was in admin, and could hear people screaming "Tastes Great". They were clearly adults shouting this, and the other side wasn`t responding, because they didn`t know the whole notion behind that concept. 1 Quote
BavarianBeatle Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Yep. Refer to the history section of this website for more rides that used to reside in the Oktoberfest area of Kings Island. Keep in mind that the Festhaus is not original to the park and was added to the park in 1983, when the park was eleven years old. Well, I, for one, remember what was originally at that location.... Jasper Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Viking Fury is staying right at home where it belongs. It has very nice architecture on it and looks amazing for being such an older ride. Everytime i am up at KI i always go for a 2 or 3 ride marathon on Viking Fury after i get done eating in the Festhaus, call it tradition if you will. Quote
