October 13, 200817 yr The boy wanted to go to KI for his 8th birthday this year (rather than have yet another a pizza party{yawn}). As parents, were happy to oblige since we all wanted to go again before the season ended and also the check out HH and Howl-O-Fest. He also wanted to invite one friend and we thought this was a good idea too. His little buddy had NEVER been to KI! (How can this be?) Also, this trip was a change from our normal routine whereas we wanted to take more a leisurely pace throughout the park and enjoy the props and some attractions we typically skip or ignore. Baylen is somewhat fearless for his age, having ridden everything at KI his height will permit. His companions’ experience until this day had been to ride WDW’s Space Mountain; a great ride with fantastic theme, but not exactly the same “thrill” available at KI. (IMHO) Baylen rode the following either with his invited friend or good ole Dad, or both: Avatar: -first ride of the day where we learned that B’s buddy was not quite as brave as claimed Phantom Flyers-Baylen didn’t want to do this but his friend did. (Baylen feigned sleep throughout the duration. We explained that part of being a good friend is to make compromises so that ALL have a good time.) RRReptar- a legitimate coaster for the newbie to experience Beast – w/Dad Backlot Stunt Coaster-2X w/all, this is a great ride. SR&R –w/Dad Vortex- w/Dad (Baylens’ favorite) Zephyr- the newbies favorite Red Racer-blue not operating, another classic for the noob AE-short line Grand Carousel-been a long time for that one We also took time to watch a show at the Festhaus. Everybody, especially the boys, enjoyed the “monster themed” song and dance number (oh that 80's music). We spent some time shopping on International Street where Baylens friend bought him a souviner T for his B-day. Sometime about the middle of the day we headed over to the picnic area, not only for BBQ lunch (the bees don’t sting, seriously) but also to check out Howl-O-Fest. This was fun for the boys whom made masks, danced, went through the hay bale maze and also stopped for candy. We probably spent two hours of the day over there and it was a great feature. As for Halloween Haunt we chose to avoid these attractions because, at 8 years old, the boys are just too young for that experience. The fog started rolling in at about 6:30 pm and it was thick (and I mean thick) and made for a creepy effect when combined with the other seasonal props and lighting. Sadly the boys spotted only two free roaming haunts whereas we expected much more, so we were disappointed in that regard. Perhaps the haunts are more conspicuous later in the night? Ya know, I always try to note "out of the ordinary" folks while at KI. On this trip I witnessed two elderly women boarding The Racer as I was disembarking. They had to be 70(+) years old. You don't see that every day. You go girls! Stuff we usually do but didn’t this trip: Drop Tower (personal favorite) the RR-seems like this would be a great opportunity for haunts & a haunted theme (removed from direct interaction) SOB Fairly Odd Coaster-a great break-em-in SB&HC- a staple WTRA – the elephant was “squirtless” no fries from Potato Works (darn!) We normally ride the following but were not able to because they were not operating: Flight Deck-what’s up with that? Congo Falls-already in dry dock for winter Viking Fury-again, what’s up with that? Whitewater Canyon-here is another opportunity for an indirect haunt (in the woods). SP Bikini Bottom Bash-dry as the Sahara Glad to see Diamondback under construction. It’s much more impressive firsthand. We look forward to this new attraction in addition to thrills from these others: the Crypt Delerium Firehawk Flight of Fear Invertigo While some of these rides have been around for years, they nevertheless will be firsts for us (when height permits). We exited the park sometime after 8:00. I think we made a new fan in addition to warm & fuzzy memories. No pictures, the camera is broken.
October 13, 200817 yr Yeah, roamers don't really come out until 7 or so... and even then , you can spot them at the Fright Feast in wings, so they really don't get around the park til 730-8ish
October 13, 200817 yr And your TR was apparently for Saturday, 10-11...since you mention fog, roamers and leaving after 7, when the park closed on Sunday...but not Saturday. Also, Viking Fury has not been open during Haunt. . .probably staffing issues. Flight Deck doesn't open as its queue interferes with Club Blood, or vice versa.

October 14, 200817 yr Yep, it appears to be open Sundays, but not during the Haunt days...perhaps it is a staffing issue.

October 15, 200817 yr ........maybe.......you'll just have to get a ticket for the Fright Feast to find out. I already plan on that...if only to avoid the long line for Urgent Scare on Saturday night...the reason I was asking was because I wanted to be prepared to get lots of pictures of the scaractors...something that I can't do when they are in their haunts.
October 16, 200817 yr Just remember, you can take pictures of the scaracters as long as they can take pictures of you! Terpy, who just HAD to
