November 7, 200817 yr As you may or may not know, I love (well, not love, am interested in) abandoned amusement parks and old amusement park Americana. That's why I was am so intrigued with the past rides of Kings Island, and I was very iterested when I stumbled upon the ruins of the Flight commander que and the concrete foundations of King Cobra when I was viewing the park on windows live. Is there anything else abandoned at Kings Island? And has anyone besides me ever been the Chippewa Lake Park in it's abandoned stage. Thankyou.
November 7, 200817 yr I was supposed to tour Chippewa with a photographer from the Toledo Blade last winter, but the snow kept me from making the drive to Medina and now I'll never have the chance. I did, however, have the opportunity to legally photograph both Americana/Lesourdsville Lake and Surf Cincinnati, you can view my photographs at: Americana article: http://queencitydiscovery.blogspot.com/200...visited_29.html Americana photos: http://www.mcflash.4000loavesanhour.com/QC...incy/Americana/ Surf Cincinnati photos: http://www.mcflash.4000loavesanhour.com/QC...SurfCincinnati/ A great website documenting the history of abandoned amusement parks is www.illicitohio.com

Go! It's still up!
November 8, 200817 yr Author I believe it's been torn down now to make room for new subdivisions. No it hasn't, I just went 2 weeks ago.
November 8, 200817 yr Go for it Gordon! This time of year is ideal with the leaves and all.....I went by it coming back from cleveland, and was tempted, but with my muffler bungee corded under my car at the time, I figured I shouldn't push my luck
November 8, 200817 yr Would love to see KI dismantle and bring the Screechin Eagle the the park. Would make a great addition to Coney Mall. A shame such a great coaster sits and rots over at Americana.
November 8, 200817 yr Nice pictures. I rode these rides when I was younger, but can barely remember. Can only remember the sky ride, Dizzy Dragons, small wooden coaster, mini golf, and spray ground at Americana. (barely)

A shame such a great coaster sits and rots over at Americana. I'd love for them to move the tumble bug from Chippewa Lake to KI but...http://lh6.ggpht.com/_bHiwSffoYP4/R-kCJ6iRqYI/AAAAAAAABFU/yazJPCjZ5TQ/FH000019-1.jpg yeah, that's not gonna happen. And just as an interesting tid-bit; The Screechin' Eagle actually was relocated from another park in Ohio; Moxahala Amusement Park as "Cyclone"
November 8, 200817 yr I think its a crime that the tumble bug was not moved somewhere-no way it can be saved now. Whatever happened to the one at KI? I loved those swinging cages too..those used to be pretty popular back then.
November 8, 200817 yr Author Where is the queue area for Flight Commander? (That ride looked fun!) To the right of the base of where the trampolines are now.
November 8, 200817 yr Where is the queue area for Flight Commander? (That ride looked fun!) To the right of the base of where the trampolines are now. The yellow/green tent looking thing?
November 8, 200817 yr Has Anyone ever been to Chippewa Lake Park when it was open? To take a line from Interp. "Yes" On a side note, I had the opportunity to visit a hand full of times. It was a great park, very relaxing next to the lake.

November 8, 200817 yr Where is the queue area for Flight Commander? (That ride looked fun!) In an area not accessible to the general public.

Its hard to explain, you'll find it, look around the trampoline area; http://www.KICentral.com/history/photos/th...ils.php?album=4

The Wild Mouse was a lot of fun, it was in the perfect spot in the park too.
November 8, 200817 yr Hmm... I just learned from my parents that Americana was my first amumsement park! Can people still walk around the park or any sections of it?? I really would love to walk around it sometime!
November 8, 200817 yr Author Hmm... I just learned from my parents that Americana was my first amumsement park! Can people still walk around the park or any sections of it?? I really would love to walk around it sometime! No, not unless you get permission from someone, don't know who..
November 8, 200817 yr Hmm... I will have to figure out who that someone is! EDIT: It is most likely Jerry Couch, the properties current owner.
November 8, 200817 yr Yes, and some parts of the park are still intact as of now, correct? I already emailed him through his contact us section of his Couch's Campers website.
November 8, 200817 yr Hmm... I just learned from my parents that Americana was my first amusement park! Mine too. I barely remember the park, but I have a shot glass from there. It's frosted and has little carousel horses on it. My mom bought it, but gave it to me after my obsession with amusement parks began.
November 8, 200817 yr I can't wait to see if I can visit or not! I love the idea of touring an abandoned amusment park! That place should really be opened up as a museum. Place some other memorabillia and maybe even reopen a old ride and you could make some money off that. Just charge a couple of bucks for entry!
