I was wondering if Kings Island ever planned on repainting The Racer to its original red white and blue colors. Also does anyone know why they tore down the Flying Eagles. Ive looked and the land where it once stood and it wasn't even touched? i understand the risk that it could have been damaged, but if they were careful, it could have stayed with us, thanks.

i'm not sure about repainting The Racer, but flying eagles was removed to make room for backlot. :D

Actually, while Flying Eagles may have been removed in that time span, I don't think it was removed to make room for IJST, being that they are (or would have been) a good 50 or 75 feet away.

exactly my point, than why?

The Three Point Challenge is in Flying Eagles old spot, not Backlot.

Yes but the official reasson from the former operator is that they needed to make room for BLSC.

Uhhhh.......

And the official story under Cedar Fair is that recaR was turned around for nostalgic reasons. You do the best you can with the facts you have....

Hey, if they want to save money that way I'm fine with it, recaR hurt!

Jeff Seibert was never known for letting the truth get in the way of a good story. In addition, in his defense, plans change...perhaps there really was a logistical problem that required at least the temporary removal of the Flying Eagles during construction...and then Mr. Fisher (for that was his name) prevailed upon corporate to move the attraction to the Carolinas....

Yes, and that certain ride in the Carolinas had to have an extensive overhaul this past off season that involved completely rebuilding sections of the ride.

Personally, I`d like to see Flight Decks track painted something other than the steel silver color that it is currently painted. And to be honest, that ride needs a paint job more than any other ride at Kings Island. The old red color is showing in many areas, and it is now light pink in color. Either blue or red track could match the Flight Deck sign they have at the entrance to the ride.

I completely agree. I'm sure I'm not the only one to notice how rusty parts of the track has become. But...Racer would look much nicer in red, white, and blue. But, then, it would run better trimless too and I don't have any hope that it will happen.

I'd have to agree with the above sentiment, Racer and Flight Deck are the most in need of a paint job. Racer looks great from anywhere in the park, but up close....ick. First though I'd wish they'd tear down those graffiti infested plywood walls surrounding the breaks right before the station on Racer. For those who attended KIC day and had the chance to hear Jeff Gramke speak, I believe he said something to the affect of that the park was in an argument with the company they purchased the paint from last time Flight Deck was paint for alleged "paint failures."

When the capital expenditures budget for the entire Cedar Fair chain is only $62 million, and Kings Island is getting more than a third of that already for a new coaster, I doubt seriously you will see any major ride painted for next year....yet, stranger things have happened.

If you have listen to the 3rd quarter conference call at the very end in the question and answer period Dick states that the 62 million is for rides and shows. They all so have a capital improvement budget to get that stuff done!

And if you read here, you can read about toxic debt and one of the companies mentioned...no, it isn't SIX, where it is even more toxic:

http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2008...-portfolio.aspx

Perhaps that is why FUN capital expenditures are down....I just don't understand how SIX continues cap ex at the level it is projecting in this environment. What Mr. Kinzel actually stressed is that shows also make people happy and show spending is in addition to the cap ex.

Shows seldom involve capital expenditures....only if durable equipment and/or buildings are purchased...a presentation is not capital, nor is talent.

Capital expenditures are not down there was a coaster planned for Great America that got pushed back if you add that back in we are right back to the 80-90 million dollar mark.

You really need to read the Six Flags conference call thread....At most, the Great America coaster MAY have cost $10 million (and that's being VERY liberal). How does $62 mil + $10 mil = even $80 million, the latter being a figure low even for the legacy Cedar Fair parks?

Just going by what the CEO Dick Kinsel said.
