Employment pass question

As an employee at KI do you get priviledges at other CF parks, or do you only get into KI? Since I am probably going to work there this summer, I'm wondering if I should buy a platinum pass anyway because I intend to make several visits to other CF parks.

When I worked there this post season my Assistant Supervisor told me that it can be used in other Cedar Fair parks. Her and another employee visited Cedar Point and said they could park in the employee parking, and also get into some kind of early admission event. I am not 100% completely sure what the deal is because no one ever told me.

I was also going to ask a similar question because I am going to be working there again this summer. I wish we could get into the ERT for Diamondback every morning.

I'm crossing my fingers to be able to actually work at Diamondback.. I'm going to make sure I'm one of the first people at the job fair because if I work in rides, that's where I want to work! I'm also considering working at Cedar Point, so who knows what I'll be doing. :)

I would hate to burst your bubble but I think the crew for Diamondback is already chosen. Before I was terminated each crew was given a list to put down our top 3 choices for what ride we wanted to work at next season. And they were going to tell you what crew you were going to be on before the season ended. I think they were going to pick some of their best Rides Associates for DB because of it being brand new and a really fast pace coaster. However I could be wrong. Either way, rides is definitely the way to go.

I guess I'll find out, won't I? I'd also love to work on The Beast, so I might end up working during the ERT's anyway. No big loss in that case.

Yeah if during your interview you show to be very responsible and answer all of the question well you could very well work at it if they are still accepting for the coaster. If you don't mind me asking, do you have any past job experiences or is this going to be your first job? Because if you have a good job history that could definitely help you a bunch.

The atmosphere in The Beast station at night is awesome and that would be very cool to pep up the station for night rides.

As for ERT, the park hosts employee nights where certain attractions are open and only employees are allowed in the park. I went to the Haunt kick off night and we had no wait for Firehawk, FoF and also Death Row maze. I'm sure they will have a night that has something to do with Diamondback.

Oh, I've got plenty of work history. :P I've been working since I was 14 (including 2 seasons at PKI) and I'm now 23. I've been a manager at a jewelry store, sold cars for 2 years, and delivered pizza on and off whenever I'm not making enough money elsewhere. I'm hoping my age and past history will help open up options. I really want to work a coaster if I go with rides (I actually listed department trainer or merch auditor as my first choices), and if I can't ... well, I'll try Cedar Point! :D

The first season I worked there, we got an ERT on The Beast and Tomb Raider. Since it was the year TR:TR opened, everyone went flocking to it .. I walked on The Beast and rode it 3 or 4 times in a row with a bunch of crazy, excited, screaming employees. It was pretty awesome.

Viola,

I'm pretty sure the employee ID gets you into all of the Cedar Fair parks, I remember some of my friends from the park telling me that last year.

Also, they typically only put returners from the previous year on big new rides. I know for example after the '04 season I put IJ as my first choice and was put on the crew. Unfortunately, I got promoted before it opened so I didn't really get an opportunity to work the ride. However, if you don't get on a coaster, pick another popular ride like Delirium, you may get an opportunity to work at Diamondback. People do call off ya know?

Best of luck!

When I worked at KI in '07 we all went to CP and KD with our employee badges. You get to park in the empoyee parking for free, and you enter through the main gate like any other guest. Also if the have an employee cafe you can eat there as well.

Very cool. Thanks for the info. Any word on if you can get the ERT at CP that platinum pass holders get?

When I worked at PKI, I could get into any Paramount park for free, and since you had to enter through the employee gate and could exit the park at any area, I could do ERTs and stuff like that. Only thing I couldn't do was the gold pass double rides.

From what I understood your employee pass is just like a basic entry pass, so I don't think you get gold pass perks like ERT and other things at the other parks.

So are you working at KI this year?

Haven't decided yet. I may take the summer off (my first one in 9 years) so I can do a lot of stuff I haven't previously been able to do because of crappy work schedules, and see if they need people towards the end of the season as people leave to go back to school. I've got about 2 1/2 weeks to decide what to tell them at the job fair. When I applied, I thought I would have to work full time but since I applied, my husband has been offered a position making enough money that I don't have to work. Plus, not working would give me the freedom to travel with him for business.

So, like I said, I haven't decided yet.

That's cool. They always do need help the last 3 weeks of operating season, because of everyone going back to school.

Not trying to hijack your thread, but it seems silly to take up forum space with another question about employment at KI.

I'm considering working at KI this summer, but I live in Trenton so it's a decent drive to get there. I don't expect alot more than minimum wage, but will the pay be enough so that after I pay for gas I'll still have a decent amount left, or should I opt for something a little closer?

If any of us had the first clue how much gasoline would cost by then, we might be of some help. How do you intend to get to the park? Car pool? Drive? If so, what? How many hours are you willing to work?

Well, I'd be driving. And I'd probably do about 30 hours a week, if I can even get that many. It's becoming very difficult to get work anywhere at the moment, I've had to resort to working at the local jr. high school as a janitor.

You will be able to get a lot of hours if you want a lot. Well that's how it was for rides. You can take other people's shifts and my supervisors just let us show up during the post season because that is when they need a lot of people to work.

When I worked there, I only made $6/hr (so about $1 less than they pay now) and gas was averaging $0.90 - $1.30 a gallon. I was driving 46 miles each way, and my car got between 36-40 mpg. I had more than enough money when I was done with gas to pay for everything I needed at the time (which wasn't much, admittedly). I had no problem getting 30 hours a week and could have worked more if I'd wanted to. I was in merch, so it's probably the same across all departments.

All right. Gas will be more than that this summer but it's not like I'm not going to be driving out there most days anyway XD

Thanks to you both for the info.

And, keep in mind that Ohio`s minimum wage this year is $7.30. And if you depending on the department, you could be able to work double shifts (so you`d be there all day) as opposed to working just one shift at a time. That way you could maximize your trips to the park.

I bet you could get together with some other workers in the same area as you for a car pool and you could save a lot of money that way, that's what I'm doing when I get my job there in 1-2 years!

Yeah I am also planning on doing that this year but it is going to be hard to get scheduled for the same shifts. But last year during training they asked us if we were going to be carpooling with anyone and gave us a form to fill out so maybe that is what they were going to do with that sheet; try to schedule you guys at the same time.

After I had already started working there, a friend of mine applied. He put me as his carpool, and they put him in my store on the same shift. He never worked when I didn't, since I was his ride.

Really! My friend is applying for the same position as I am so even if I don't need to carpool with her then at least I can work with her. Thanks for the extra info.

I'd recommend telling them she's your ride (or vice versa) to get the sweet deal that we worked out. If he'd just said he sometimes rode with me, or had worked in a different department, we couldn't have had the exact same shifts. But since he didn't have a car, I was his "reliable transportation." I had other friends that worked in other departments (admissions and food) and even another merch person that was in main park, and they wouldn't schedule us perfectly together since the shifts didn't line up - my shift was 10-6 or 2-10 since I was in the waterpark, theirs was like .. 8-4, 12-8 or 4-12 since they were main park.
