goofywdw
yea, Rollercoster wheels are hard plastic (seeing as how the tires would most likely bust on the first hill). Send in the cranes....where have I heard that before? : ) Well weren't Hypersonic XLC's wheels like car tires? http://www.coastergallery.com/2000/pkd38.html Well according to Joel Rogers they are airplane tires! The Interpreter
Sure, and that explains...a lot, actually. That thing was great its first year...and then.... Terpy, who thinks the word a lot of people are looking for is urethane. . . . http://www.tms.org/pubs/journals/JOM/0205/Byko-0205.html http://www.uremet.com/
violakat03
i think i remember terpy saying that when Son of Beast valleys they just cut away a spot in the track and then use a crane to remove them from the track. I believe they dismantle the coaster cars rather than the track. Remove the wheels (especially the up-stops) and they can be removed by crane. I remember reading that they took apart the train when Raptor valleyed. Though if FOF gets stuck at launch (which happens sometimes) they have to push it all the way back into the station for a re-try. That has to suck. Oldschool75
I remember when you got a new ride every 5 years or so. I would just be happy with overall improvements to the park, or some small flats than a new big ride.
The Interpreter
Kings Island has never, ever only gotten a new ride every five years or so. Even in these tough economic times, I doubt you will see that...

Even in these tough economic times, I doubt you will see that... So sue me! I was estimating. I was trying to make the point that there was a time when KI didn't get a new ride every year. The Interpreter
Besides, I have no intention of suing anyone. But, in reality, the only years that Kings Island arguably didn't get a major ride are: 1978, 1980, 1983 and 2008. I don't even find two years in a row without one! http://www.KICentral.com/history/timeline.php

The Interpreter
What? Son of Beast was added in 2000. I did not list 2000 as a year KI did not receive a major ride. Racer opened with the park in 1972. I also did not list 1972 as a year when the park did not receive a major ride. So, what do you mean? The Interpreter
What's your point? We were talking about years when Kings Island did NOT get a major ride. Again, neither 1972 or 2000 was listed as such a year.
coaster_junky
^and that is why he listed the years when there were not any major rides added *edit* terpy beat me to it, but oddly at the bottem of the screen his name wasn't even down there. weird

kittenpooh
I have been going to Kings Island since I can remember. I have seen some things come and go for many reasons. Right now, believe it or not, I think after Diamond Back KI needs to focus on other things then new rides.Things like keeping there heads out of this economic crash for one. I don't think KI is going under but you never know these days. I just got done reading about other parks that have recently shut down and other parks that are cutting back. I would really hate for KI to even have to think about cutting back. I love KI the way it is and Diamond Back does make a wonderful addition. I do say a new flat ride would be nice. Something more for the family.
goofywdw
That is one thing I would love to see. A new kind of amazing flat ride. Sometimes coasters can't do the justice a very fun flat ride can do.
Jaredap88
that would be pretty cool...they havn't done one of those in a while (that i can think of at least)....
Beast1979
But, in reality, the only years that Kings Island arguably didn't get a major ride are: 1978 1979: The Beast. 1980 1981: The Bat 1983 1984: King Cobra 2008 2009: Diamondback I think I'm seeing a pattern here..... Shaggy
I think that's more a circumstantial fluke than anything. I'd be shocked if KI installed a ride in 2010. Let's just pray that they have a revenue generating 2009 that allows them to at least partially pay off Diamondback. If it were me, I'd concentrate on infrastructure. In these economic times, it's my opinion that it would behoove them to consider bringing back the campground to cater to those that wish to travel to the park without the costly expenditure of hotel rooms. RailRider
I wouldn't expect another coaster for about 4-5 years. I figure we will see infastructure, dinning, entertainment, and some flats during that time.

hausty1983
I was wondering if Cedar Point runs the campgrounds up there by the park? I may consider camping there this year there since its right next to the park instead of getting a hotel and saving money that way. I think Kings Island should bring the campgrounds back it would be very nice to see it back but who knows if it ever does it sure would save people money coming from out of town and people who like camping also... Captain Picard
Yes they do and if you want to stay there you need to make reservations now. When I would take my camper it wasn't cheap. I always got full hookup and it cost as much as a room. If you stay in a tent you might save a little.
kittenpooh
Like I said, a new flat ride would be great. But I really think they need to focus on some theming. Like the Crypt needs a good over haul. Some of the coasters (flight deck) could use an upgrade. Paint and such. I wouldn't look for a big new ride for a few years.
goofywdw
^Those little touch ups would be awesome. Flight Deck really needs some TLC including paint. I would love to see some theming put into the actual ride area. I used to love the theming and I still love the ride because they have made the ride a little bit more intense. (At least that's what people are saying because I don't remember much) I would love to see all of the old attractions get some love and work on their stations and that kind of stuff. LongliveKingsCobra
Was there at one time themeing under the station that used light effects and mist? Because I remember a sign that said, Warnign the use of lighting and fog is in use during the ride... Anyone know about it?
The Interpreter
Yes, there was. Dry ice was used to create the fog effects. There were also strobes. Like many other Paramount themed things, it didn't last.
