Gordon Bombay
This previous weekend I came home to work on a school photo assignment. After I was done I met up with a friend from high school on friday night to go to a movie. After the movie we were joking about how we used to write for the school paper in high school and wish we still had some of the articles we wrote. I remembered that my mom had saved a bunch of those papers in a box in my old room (my room is now the guest room ). So we went and found that box and started looking. I wasn't able to find any of my old high school newspapers but I did find this: I had talked about with TopGun1993, he's a huge AE fan, that at one point Adventure Express had an on ride photo you could purchase after the ride. I remember owning this, but had no idea where it was. Here's the inside: I can clearly remember when I got this. I remember riding in the spring. My dad and I would go to the park some times, just me and him when we'd get to ride the "big" rides. Until 2001, Adventure Express was the biggest ride I rode. We came off of the ride and one of the teenagers working the photo booth was the assistant baseball coach from my little league team that previous summer. He recognized us and gave us the photograph for free. This picture is probably from 1997 by my guess. Thats me around 8 years old with a buzz cut. My dad was cut off in the picture. Back of the on ride photo. They used to take the picture after the first lift hill, after the turn as your dropped down. The photo booth was located as you exited the ride in the place where they have remote control cars now. Not sure when they stopped on ride photos of Adventure Express, but I thought some people might find this interesting. Edit: I've now been informed that the remote control cars are now gone and replaced with benches.
TOPGUN1993
Very nice fine! The "Evil Stone God" or whatever it's called is a little scary with the fangs.
coasterguy15
Very cool! I have an onride photo of me back in 2003 when i rode The Vortex, my first looper. I was scared to death but i ended up riding one of my favorite coasters.
BoddaH1994
Side note: The remote control cars were removed a few years ago. There's now landscaping there.
violakat03
Somewhere in the mess that is my house, I've got an on-ride photo from AE also. I always forget that you're younger than me. In 1997 I was 12 and the year before I had ridden every coaster in the park starting with FOF.
The Interpreter
Wow. Not in a thousand years would I have guessed that was you! You've changed a bit...and so has Adventure Express, actually.
coasterguy15
So here is the 2003 picture of me and my long-term babysitter who loves roller coasters. I'm the small, terrified looking one and the tall, laughing lady is my babysitter. It was great, i remember my exact words right before the first loop, "Oh my gosh! Here we go, my first loop!". I was terrified of coasters back then, but now, i am in love with them.
Jasper
Nice photo. I love how the picture frame holder thing makes AE look like a huge scary ride. Not something you would expect after you ride it. No offense TopGun1993. On the remote control cars topic, i remember when i went to the park for Lexmark Family Days in 1996 i played on those cars for quite some time. Thats when i wasnt that interested in coasters as well. I have some old pictures from back then ill have to see if i can dig them out. Coney Islander
I remember spending 10 bucks on the remote controlled cars cars every time I went to KI before I rode big coasters. If I can recall, there were also motor boats.
Kawana
I just found an old ORP from FoF. This was back when the OTSR were still being used. After I'm done moving, I'll put it up as it's packed away now.
gigacoaster2k
I have an old photo from 2000 of me on Vortex.. as I always do on coasters, I have a huge smile on my face and my hands in the air. Reading all of this is making me miss KI even more. This will mark year number 14 that I have been visiting the park, and I have so many memories there with friends and family.
