Belgian company Inbev purchased Anheuser-Busch in July of last year, a controversial and unpopular move. Since then the company has been trimming staff and divisions. In December last year the company laid off some 1000 workers or about 6 percent of its total workforce. And there is talk that when done the layoffs could total up to 15 percent of the total workforce.

The company is also rumored to be seeking a buyer for its theme parks, which include Sea World and Busch Garden properties and significantly scaling back their presences in sports.

In motorsports Anheuser-Busch recently announced that they would be ending a 30-year partnership with the NHRA’s Kenny Bernstein. First as a driver and more recently as a team owner, Bernstein has won six championships under the Bud colors.

A source confirmed that Budweiser’s decisions concerning the NHRA and going forward would be made to redirect dollars to a non-sports-enthusiast audience....

Pretty sure they are under contract with the #9 car for a couple of more years. They will have to buy that out. Probably cheaper to just keep sponsering the car. Then leave when it expires.

You might want to read the linked article. It ends:

...Shortly after this was published Dan McHugh, vice president of media, sponsorship and activation for Anheuser-Busch, released a statement : "Budweiser remains committed to its presence in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, including sponsorship of Kasey Kahne and the #9 Budweiser Dodge, as well as the Budweiser Shootout."

--Point to be made here: AB is signed through 2010, and no mention of the date was in the statement. Nor was there any mention of 'long term' in any form. It's my opinion that the statement is nothing more then 'tap dancing' by the public relations folks who need to buy some time. I remain convinced in part due to my source who stands behind what was said that AB will be refocusing their dollars outside of sports.--Greg

To do something I never thought I would do and quote Interpreter.... My head hurts!! Where on God's green Earth do these elitist fools from In-Bev think that 80% or more of the Budweiser buying public come from????? They come from the SPORTS ENTHUSIAST sector. Do they all of a sudden think that just becasue they own the company that the clientele is going to instantly transform itself from everyday Americans to the Mercedes and BMW crowd? If they are depending on that economic sector, I predict we see In-Bev Busch going the way of SIX within 3 to 5 years as the types that they seem to be wanting to cater to are far more inclined to be holding a true imported malt beverage or a martini. Fools
