Eiffel Tower Lighting

Featured Replies

I don't know if I just didn't notice it before, but the lighting on the Eiffel Tower was really cool. I like how they changed the colors throughout the night. And especially how it changed during the fireworks. It seemed to go with the music.

Great Job if this is new, if it's not... sorry for not noticing before.

This is relatively new. The old lights you can still see around the tower (and on it--those lamps hanging down from under the tower head). The whole tower used to be lit up at night from all angles. Now it's just one bright spotlight that changes colors on the front of the tower. The last time I noticed the old lighting was in 2005.

In the 70s/80s, it looked something like this:

Last time I was at KI, I was walking with everyone at night and I heard Kat say "Ooh, purple" behind me. I looked over to see the tower a startling shade of purple against the night sky. I love the color changes, it really adds a nice touch to the park at night.

Actually, the changing spot lights that currently illuminate the tower at night were installed for Winterfest in 2005. An there are more than just one spot light. There are three on the ground (one on each leg and one next to the International Street Bandstand. There are several more lights directly on the tower itself.

i noticed during the haunt last year. also my avatar i took while sitting under one of the corners. i tried to nab the purply blue but it changed to green before i could get it.

I have a weakness for all things purple, so I love it when it shows up with that really vibrant purple. I like all the changes, but the purple seems to be the most vibrant of the colors.

rotag - I've admired your avatar for awhile and had been wondering if you were the one to take it. Thanks for the answer to the unasked question!

rotag, I've wondered for some time now what your avatar is. I hadn't looked at it too closely, but I knew it looked really cool.

Just to add to what Robbie was saying --

The lights were in fact installed for Winterfest 2005. Under the Paramount regime they were used for special events such as Winterfest and Nights of Fire. Once Cedar Fair took over they were almost immediately used as a nightly spectacle.

^^ I thought it made perfect sense to light up the tower like MF is lit up. Kudos to CF. Totally mezmerizing to look at. (for me anyway)

You think they will keep the tower lit up all night on May9th? All the way until us Ride Warriors vacate the park? If so it will be some really nice picture taking.

In the past they've kept it lit up until midnight. They may keep it lit until the park is clear that night, though.

Tower lighting shuts off at 3AM. I've worked past that hour too many times to know this.

Has it always been 3am? I was sure I had driven past the park right at the stroke of midnight and saw it shut off.

It's programmed to shut off at that hour. Of course, that doesn't always happen and they may turn off earlier or later. Things with electronics tend to do NOT as they are told sometimes. They may also have been working on the lighting at that hour as well, as the only time we can test/maintain/program them is after the park closes, late at night.

Well then looks like I will have some time for a some nice photo ops. So Terpy it's safe to say we'll all be up until early morning on Sunday. Then right back at it a few hours later. lol

Oh I see. I was just assuming. So if you did go you wouldn't be there for very long. I see how it is Terpy prefers his beauty sleep over good company! Lol :P

No, you really don't see how that is...but Terpy does. Or something.

Terpy, who once went to Six Flag Great America, Kentucky Kingdom and Kings Island in the same day...

You must not have been at any of those parks for very long.

I noticed something that seemed different about Eiffel Tower this evening. It appeared to have really brightly powered spotlights around the top pointed toward the back of the park, which kind of annoyed me on the last Beast night ride. They also completely screwed up the color change, so I hope this is not permanent, but rather a fluke.

Hey i noticed that friday night (the 1st) the park was using the Eiffel Tower's original lighting system (the one with the bright lights at the top of the tower and the big halogen bulbs under the observation platform). I was actually kind of stunned as i dont think that i had ever seen the original lighting used. They did not use that lighting tonight though.

I don't usualy stay at the park after 7pm but I went with my whole family once and we stayed until the park closed and the lighting on the tower was amazing imo. It gave me chills.
