Dance Dance Revolution/In the Groove/Pump It Up/Guitar Hero arcade machines?

I wish KI had some classic arcade and pinball games like CP does. CP's arcade is very well known for their classic games and draws people in just to play those retro games. I always check at the KI arcades to see if they happened to add a donkey kong, galaga, etc...nothing yet, but my fingers are crossed!

Then there are those who go to parks when they can't ride any major rides, yet still have a great time...not depositing a nickel in an arcade game (yes, he knows they take quarters...multiple ones in many cases). A park is so much more than just rides. In days of old, many went to parks just to play SkeeBall or Fascination. Cedar Point seems to remember that. Sort of.

agreed.

and in response to Justin...I'm not talking playing madden football on your xbox. I'm talking classic arcade machines. You can not find these anywhere anymore and the arcades that do have them collect on par and even more so than moddern games.

I know what you're talking about, I just prefer to ride the rides when I go to parks. And honestly if you know where to look you can find pretty much any game you can think of.

I usually just ride the rides also, but it would be nice to have a bunch of those types of games in one single location. I understand your point though.

The Smithsonian?

He is right...but one location may have one game and another place another game. It would be cool to have a whole retro type arcade with many games so you don't have to drive to other ends of they city to find the certain game you want.

You must look at it from Cedar Fair's perspective though. Would the addition of these games bring in enough profit (If any at all) to make the endeavor worthwhile? Most people (Excluding some of the hardcore enthusiasts here) only get a few visits to Kings Island a year, and would much rather spend their time riding on the rides rather than playing in the arcades.

I'm not saying that the arcades don't make money, I know they made a good $5 from me a few weeks ago out of boredom when everyone else stopped in to play DDR >.<

I'm simply saying that not many people are going to say "Well, Kings Island has Galaga, so maybe it's worth visiting...". On the other hand, if the money went toward the installation of (for example) a new ride, it would more than likely bring more business to the park.

I agree, there is very little market for these types of games. CP has many classic games in their main arcade (in the back) but they do not own them...I can't remember who does. The company owns and maintains the games and I'm sure pays CP for the electricity and space. Some of the arcades at KI have a lot of room and maybe a deal like this would work well for them.

I'm not bashing on you because you are young...but I think many people would be surprised on the amount of people that travel to places that have retro arcades. I know I have been using CP as an example, but it is a great example. I know people that go there just for their arcade. Just like how there are coaster enthusiasts, there are classic arcade enthusiasts. I would def go to a place because they have a Galaga, or whatever machine...I know it sounds crazy, but there are many others like me that would.

Oh I know, believe me. I have quite a few friends (And a relative or two, for that matter) who travel to classic arcades. And the addition of some of these games to Kings Island would most likely make the park a bit of money, but I still think the park could spend their money on something that would appeal to a larger group of people, thus increasing profits.

yeah, if they would have thought it would benefit them or whatever, they probably would have done it already by now. And the people/company that owns and maintains all the classic machines at CP is located in Sandusky and I don't know of a place/company in Cinci. that does that. Sure there is one though.

Yes, DDR and Guitar Hero are both in the arcade in Coney Mall. Although the Guitar Hero machine is horribly out of sync so I wouldn't suggest playing it.

Whew, I'm glad it wasn't just me then. I thought I would have been much better at "Barracuda" than I turned out to be on that machine!

I've found myself spending 20-40 nickels in the arcade everytime I go with GatorGirl. Every time we get off Monster, she's drawn over to the arcade by the allure of playing skeeball. As long as skeeball remains a quarter a game, I don't mind.

I love skeeball. I don't even care if I get any tickets, I just enjoy playing it.

Also, I don't know if anyone else noticed that the price of DDR has gone down. For years and years it was $1.00 per person, per play. It is now $0.75 per person, per play. That puts it on par with out-of-park arcades, which usually charge either $0.50 or $0.75. I will probably play it more often now that I've noticed this. Plus they reset the game every year, so most of the good songs are not unlocked. The more it's played, the more gets unlocked, and I miss being able to play Sakura at an arcade!

There is such a place, but you have to go to New Hampshire to get to it. Check out this place: http://www.funspotnh.com/

It was featured in the hit documentary King of Kong.
