Cedar Point PTR August 20, 2009

I realized it's been a while since I posted a PTR, so here you go! I've been meaning to post this.

I left my house for Cedar Point around 5:15 am. I stopped at a gas station about halfway because I was thirsty, and my cherry Amp wasn't cutting it. I opened my bottle of Sobe green tea and the underside of the lid read BIZARRO WORLD.. I nearly died laughing at the irony.

I got to the park around 8:30 am. I was thrilled to see that I was one of three cars in the GP lot (my plan was to walk around to the marina entrance, I REALLY missed my Millie!). The forecast was calling for scattered thunderstorms, but I know as any enthusiast does that this is one of the best times to go to an amusement park!

I'm always one of the first to arrive.

It would be nice if it could be like that all day!

I took the blue path around to the marina gate to see that I was maybe 1 of 25 people there. I was ecstatic about getting on Millie's first train of the day.

At the "rope drop," I jogged/ran with everyone else and didn't stop until I hit Millie's entrance. I was person number 13 to enter the queue for the day. I was going to get on the first train until I saw that there was only a 3 train wait for seat 1:1. I went for it.

Millie's front seat is easily an hour wait all day after the ROTB, no joke. Front seat on Millie is phenomenal, I love it.. and of course I leaned into the first drop, and grayed out a little! I LOVE MILLENNIUM FORCE!

I ran back and rode 2 more times, and decided to see what the wait was for Dragster since it was only 9:45. I hadn't seen it run a train all morning, and the line was from the entrance all the way back almost to the loading station.. I said screw it and went to wait for Magnum. My friend James was at Maggie's entrance, and the RIDE CLOSED sign was at the front, and he was directing people away. Apparently Maggie had a dysfunction, and it was down too. I chatted with James for a bit, and he said he'd text me when it was back up and running.

Slightly frustrated at the ride fails, I decided to head for my beloved Raptor. I hit Space Shot side of Power Tower on the way, and it was a total walk on.

I went to Raptor and it was posted at 1/2 hour wait since the 10 am rope had dropped and the GP was rolling in. I waited all of 10 minutes. I had worn a thermal shirt under my t-shirt and was severely regretting it so I managed to pull it off without flashing anyone. I got a few comments from people behind me, but I really didn't care.. I was very uncomfortable. I saw my friend Schuyler and he was surprised and happy to see me.

After Raptor, I went to visit my friend Scott on Blue Streak. Old Blue actually had a line.. I waited about 15 minutes to ride. It's nice to know I'm not the only one that appreciates this feisty little old woodie that sits in Raptor's shadow. Scott and I talked for a few minutes about how he had to rush home that night to go to his sister's wedding tomorrow.

I went out to my car to ditch my long sleeve shirt, and apply more sunscreen. I saw about 8 buses, and the main lot was around half full. I decided at this point that it might not be a bad day.

I rode maXair and Wicked Twister, and then wandered all the way to the back of the park to see if TTD, Magnum, or Skyscraper were running.. ALL of them were down. I debated on Maverick, then decided I wanted a ride on Skyhawk so I rode that, and then got something everybody has been telling me to get.

I treated myself to a waffle cone filled with chocolate vanilla swirl frozen custard.. OH MY GOSH, YUM-MY. 10 times better than ice cream, seriously, that stuff was really really good. Thanks to whoever told me to try it!

I remembered someone telling me that the signed Magnum banners were in Town Hall, so I went on a mission to find them. I found it.. my sig is in the middle banner! Check it out!

Remembering how last year's Millie ERT turned out, I decided to wait the hour for Maverick. I ended up dribbling custard down my shirt, my capris, and even on my leg, it was melting so fast.. good thing I wore dark clothes!

Waiting in line for seat 1:1!!

After Maverick, I met up with my friends Katrina, Rachel, Amy, and Garrett. Katrina and Garrett went to TGI Fridays to get food, so I rode Magnum with Amy and Rachel. We exited the ride to see their dad waiting for them (Amy and Rachel are sisters), and he wasn't happy.. Amy had stuck about $30 in her pocket and when she got off CCMR, it was gone. He was maaaaad. :(

I wanted to ride a spinning ride I could handle, so Amy, Rachel, their brother Kevin and I all headed for Witches Wheel. We walked way out to maXair, and we were next in line when they closed the ride due to inclement weather. I checked the radar on my phone to see a giant red storm heading straight for Cedar Point.

Right before the torrential rain, lightning and crazy thunder hit.

0820091543a.jpg

We ducked for cover under Space Spiral's stairs (which probably wasn't the smartest idea I've ever had!), and the storm lasted maybe 5-10 minutes before the sun came out again. We met back up with Katrina and Garrett, and the 6 of us headed toward the back of the park because everyone wanted to ride Maverick.

Healthy water in Mav's queue. *green pukey face* LOL ewww

The 5 of them decided they wanted to ride water rides, so I watched all of their stuff while they rode Snake River Falls and Thunder Canyon. We all were hungry, so we stopped for cheese fries and smoothies (not healthy, I know, but IT WAS GOOD!! haha). Then the 6 of us rode Maverick, Cadillac Motor Cars (where we caused a traffic jam LOL), and then rode the CP/LE railroad train back to Frontier Trail.. to ride none other but Millennium Force!

Millie in your face, from the train.

It was here that half the group split up, and my friend Ben was calling me to meet up with me. I hadn't seen him since CP opening day so I said goodbye to everyone and met up with Ben at Magnum.

He yelled SHOTGUN and ran for seat 1:1.. OH MY GOD, OW. I got stapled, and I mean SMASHED into the seat by the crappy lap bar. The airtime hills hurt so badly that I was literally yelling out in pain. My ride photo was epic.. you could obviously see that I was NOT enjoying the ride. I don't have the pic, but wow, that really seriously hurt.

We walked back to the rear of the park, where I stopped at this obscure little gift and candy shop way back by Mean Streak and found tropical Skittles. I have not been able to find those anywhere, so I bought 2 bags. Ben kept trying to "hold them for me".. haha, I wasn't about to have that. MY Skittles!

We took CP/LE back to Frontier Trail (again haha) where I got another sweet pic of Millie.

0820092047a.jpg

We rode Millie together, and then I was forced to ride in the rear seat of Mantis (can you say ouch?), where I finally met my friend Tony that works on the ride.

I didn't have much time left before Maverick ERT was supposed to start, so Ben and I hit the Turbo Drop side of Power Tower. WOW I forgot how badly that side scares me. It jolts when it stops at the top, and you can't hear the air compressor so you have NO IDEA when you're going to get shot down.. and at night, it was 10x worse. I was literally flipping out.. I HATE THAT SIDE OF POWER TOWER!!!!!!!

Ben and I said goodbye, and I walked back to Mav for ERT night! You do not realize the true joy of being a platinum passholder until you are waiting in line for a ride when 95% of everyone else is going out the exit!

I got to the station at 10:10 to see Tony Clark running the control booth! I jumped in row 3, and my other 4 rides were in row 6. WOW.. row 6 at night was COMPLETELY insane and out of control.. I couldn't get enough! ERT ended at 11:10. I took some photos walking back to the main exit.

Dragster at night.

Power Tower at night.

0820092335a.jpg

I left the park around 11:30 pm. As I was walking through the park, I was entertained by the fact that it was so late, employee and CP police cars were driving through the midway.

And I'm always one of the last to leave.. this pic was taken at 11:48 pm.

0820092348a.jpg

I had a great time, seeing so many friends I hadn't seen in months, meeting new friends, riding with them, and getting to be a part of Maverick ride night. TOTALLY worth every second of the 3 hour drive.

Ride count:

Maverick - 7

Millennium Force - 5

Magnum XL200 - 2

Power Tower - 2

Cedar Point/Lake Erie Railroad - 2

maXair - 1

Witches Wheel - 1

Cadillac Motor Cars - 1

Mantis - 1

Raptor - 1

Blue Streak - 1

Skyhawk - 1

Wicked Twister - 1

Nice photos and very indepth report. It makes me sad reading these PTR's since I haven't been to Cedar Point since September 7th. 2008, and have only gone to KI 9 times, and Indiana Beach once this season! :( Atleast you had a great time at the Point, and the park wasn't that busy!

Good PTR. Millennium, Maverick, and Dragster are the best of the best. Also Raptor. But unfortunately Magnum's absolutely horrific restraints push it down for me...I like it, but SO trimmed...

Lol, well alot of those visits weren't really the best..

April 18th: Opening day, great not too busy- Saturday

May 2nd: Pretty empty, great- Saturday

May 9th: Very busy, got there late but was pretty fun- Saturday

May 10th: Very empty, really fun- Sunday

June 9th: About average, pretty fun- Tuesday

June 10th: Amazing, dead, best visit ever- Wednesday

June 14th: About average, rained alot and rides were closed half the day- Sunday

August 1st: Extremely crowded, but really fun- Saturday

Augusr 2nd: Well the park was open past midnight the 1st. and I was at KI til' about 1am. so this counts as another day at the park I think?

So almost every visit has been on a Saturday and about average waits. Next year I'll be able to visit alot more, hopefully go around 30 or more times.

I'm soooo mad that I won't get to go to Cedar Point! Probably never until 10 years, when I can drive myself there. My parents aren't big fans of "waiting in lines". <_<

Then how do they get groceries?

I can't say I blame them, but if you pick the right days to go, you will find little or no lines.. yes, even at Cedar Point.

People don't seem to want to go to CP when it's cold or when there are storms in the forecast.. I go anyway, and it's totally worth only waiting 5 minutes to ride Millennium Force.

i was there on the same day as giga and 30 min. was our longest wait.

LOL sorry I never rode with you guys! It seemed like every time I was almost to the station, you guys were going out the exit!

It was a good day. The first time I rode Mav, it was posted at an hour. Second time was posted at 3/4 hour. I knew it was going to be a good day seeing as how Mav's line EASILY reaches 2 hours plus on any given day of the season.

Thanks for the PTR!

I love Blue Streak. Last year, I rode it for the first time since I was a kid and was so surprised. I think the rickety out of control feel might be what makes it so good. I have the same theory about Demon Drop. I like it way better than Drop Tower (I should probably apologize to you for that :) ) or the turbo drop of Power Tower.

Nice PTR, Angie. Sorry you didn't get to ride Skyscraper or Dragster, but 7 rides on Maverick and 5 on Millennium Force?! That's a great day at Cedar Point!

One day, my friend, you will get to experience Cedar Point, and when you do it'll TOTALLY be worth it! I hadn't gone until this year and WOW (I'm 24 and have wanted to go since the mid '90s.)! If your parents like coasters and great flat rides then Cedar Point is worth waiting in lines. Those that have been there know what I mean.

Anticipation is a wonderful thing. Heck, I didn't get to Disney (any Disney park) until my mid forties, and I was determined to not like it, and that certainly didn't end quite the way I thought it would....

It's a small world, after all....

And I know no one who can't find something at Cedar Point to adore...

It's truly a treasure...

That is SO true, Terp. The Point is where its at in my book. Im definitely going to do everything I can to work out one more trip BEFORE the Halloween junk* starts up there.

*Disclaimer: The statement just made is a statement of personal opinion, and in no way is intended to undermine the effort that the Scareactors put into the events. I recall Angie talking about how she was about to pull her hair out due to the crowds when she was at the Point last year during Halloweekends, and I know if she cant handle it... I would go NUCLEAR!

August 20th was the last day I was at CP for the summer...That was probably the weirdest day I've ever had in a park. I spent the whole summer working there, and not only had it become my park, but essentially my home. That was the morning I processed out, and it was the oddest feeling walking around for the last time, almost like I wasn't welcome there in my own backyard. Technically I don't think I was, I'm pretty sure we're supposed to leave immediately after processing out, but dang it I promised my mom a sea gull from the glass blower shop, and forgot
