UK: Obesity Epidemic Forces Venue To Make Seats Bigger

Featured Replies

...Dr Jeremy Tomlinson, of the University of Birmingham, said he was not surprised the seats had been made larger.

He said he thought it was only a matter of time before other sectors followed suit.

He said: "Being unhealthily overweight or obese will be normal and shop doors will need to be wider, seat on trains and buses larger and we will need to be weighed with our luggage at airports.

"The range of clothes sizes and home furnishings will change as will those for the afterlife.

"Goliath coffins are already big business in the USA and we're not behind America."

Somebody tell INTAMIN! :)

Agreed. The only rides that I have been tight on have been Intamins. Wicked Twister & El Toro were the worst.

I think that RCDB needs to add a line about maximum size of riders.

Somebody tell INTAMIN! :)

Nice!

I think somebody has told them. I was able to fit in the test seat for Fahrenheit (although I didn't get a chance to ride it), and I was able to ride Maverick this past weekend. Both of them feature an adjustable strap that hooks to the restraint. I could not fit on Millie, TTD or WT, all of which have a non-adjustable strap. Looks like Intamin is on the right track making their newer coasters with the adjustable strap... now if only they would (or could) rework their older coasters with these! Or, I could continue to try to drop the pounds (which I'm still working on, however slowly).

Well dropping the pounds is the best thing that both of us can do. Not only for getting on coasters, but for our general health. I have been stuck in the 240 lb range for almost a year. At least this is down from my high of 270 lb. After Disney this weekend it is time to get down to an El Toro weight for next season. I am thinking that 220 would be a lot more comfortable on the bull.
