The Ring Racer Thread

Featured Replies

As most of you know, Ring Racer, a launch roller coaster loacted at the Nurburgring race course in Germany is supposed to go faster than Kinda Ka along a Formula 1 track. AFter the launch, it just does this quick turn around thing then hits the breaks and goes back to the station.

They ran some test runs at 70mph just to test it. This is not close to the 135mph it is supposed to go.

It was supposed to open August 15th, but I heard something happened, some rumors even say an explosion. Screamscape doesnt know, does anyone here know what happened?

I thought it got launch, did a turn, hit the brakes, and then did some more turns before going back to the station.

IM not sure, its hard to find a video with the rest of the ride, they all quit out after the breaks.

It's baloney that it goes 135mph. I bet once every year it reaches that speed......it really looks like a stupid ride, not much to it.

None of those videos showed its speed of 135mph. It has not reached that speed yet. Some rumors say while testing at lower speeds something exploded.

Those are a couple cool videos. The first one just shows the turnaround area, which looks really sweet. The original post is kinda right. It is supposed to launch to 135 mph, hits the brakes, does the turnaround, and then does some 's-curves- and goes down a straight away in the building and the is it.

Edit: ^^It is supposed to launch to 135 mph every time once they get the ride open. Right now, they've just been testing it and running it at lower speeds. If they get it working correctly, it should (in theory) launch to 135 mph every time.

In the words of an industry friend, there was an incredible kaboom.

And it might open next year. Probably before Flying Turns at Knoebel's.

Or not.

Flying Turns has been talked about for Best new ride of 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. Clearly the coaster gods do not want this ride to happen.

What's Flying Turns......? And if it went "KABOOM" then I will never ride it in my life, lol.

Note that the earliest of the construction pictures on that site were from Early 2006, and pictures of testing in 2007.

Does that mean it's been testing for the last 2 years?

They had some issues, had to rework some things, more difficulties. It says openining in 2009, but it never did.

have they released the height of the turn around? i was watching a video on youtube and either the supports are huge or the track is actually pretty tall.

I personally don't think Flying Turns looks like a Best New Ride, but other people may think so.
