Flight of Fear cameras

Featured Replies

Does any know why the on-car video cameras on Flight of Fear was removed, and why dont they have this on more rides?

I don't know why for sure, but I've always thought it was maybe a test to see how popular it was and if people would buy them. Than I'm guessing not many people bought them cause they are gone now. I think Firehawk would of been a great ride to have them on.

From what I have heard, your answer is spot on...that which makes money for the park, stays. That which does not, does not.

I didn't know there were in-car videos... Were they in night vision?

if the reason they took them out was because there wasn't many people buying them, they took them out way to quickly, imo, to be able to tell. i remember the park advertising them in the photo booth, and i think it was late in the season before they were completely installed, and then they were removed over that offseason.

I believe it was just for some of the summer of 2008. I know it was gone by Haunt, and I don't think it was installed yet when the season started.

Did FoF have a normal on-ride photo for any of 2008? I could swear I remember seeing the photo booth open, but it wasn't when they had the videos...

Same opinion now as back then:

QUOTE (flightoffear1996 @ May 21 2008, 09:52 PM) They probaly didn't sell enough videos to keep the cameras on there.

they only had them on for the last 3 or 4 months of park operation, i don't think they kept them on long enough for people to know about them.

Edit (9:01 pm):

I'm assuming The Beast photo spot has been shut down, too? It was closed down last time I went.

Last I checked it was still there...

No, it's still open, just not all the time. Vortex Photo seems to be open most of the time.

wow, lol, i forgot all about that thread, but i remember that right after Son of Beast re-opened that season, my sister brought one of her friends with her to Kings Island and my mom and dad bought each of them a copy of the video, mainly because in the clip you could see the part of them going through the cobra roll and my sister elbowed her friend in the face. :P

Different park but I wonder how sales are for the video on Raptor? I can see it for Maverick and newer rides but was kinda surprised when I saw them on Raptor.

i know they've had at least one sale on raptor (me), but that was during the '08 season, i think they are a really neat alternative to on ride photos

I remember riding Flight of Fear only once or twice when they had the on-board video cameras. I, like others, think that Firehawk would have been a good alternative to have the cameras on. I was actually really close to buying a video of me on Raptor due to it was the first time I had been to CP in a while and I made some pretty funny faces and appeared to be talking to myself the whole time.

I worked in Merch. in '07. The video system on FoF was supposed to be up and running by May, but it wasn't til july that it even worked. When it finally did work is was soo unrealiable, plus nobody bought them. They were 21.99 I believe, so they weren't cheap. They didn't even last til August. It was one of those epic fails!

That's the real problem with on-ride videos - an actual movie on DVD is $6 or $7 less than a 1 minute ride video. If it cost $8.00 or $9.00 (which would still create quite a profit) they would sell more. Like the food situation, my thought is "if they charged half as much, they'd sell three times as many."

It looks like there was a light shinning back on the riders. Not something I would have liked. The videos look black and white so I don't think that would have appealed to many riders either.

I agree that Firehawk vids would probably be a hit.

I would have got one of Drop Tower.

If Drop Tower would get an on ride video system, I'd have more DVD's than Netflix and Blockbuster combined.

Sheikra at Busch Tampa has an unique video system, where instead of it being solely of you on the ride, it has cameras placed at different locations throughout the ride.

the light didn't shine back on you, the ride was still the darkness it is today, or at least from what i remember, it also could have been it was so faint that i didn't notice.
