The Interpreter
An excellent article, that deserves a full read, not just a quote: http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2010/mar/21/silver-mettle-dollywood/ And it ends with...some day, resorts are coming...Why not now? Read and see!

CoastersRZ
You will have a GREAT time at Dollywood. You can spend a good majority of your day just watching the live shows! I know on my last visit last spring, we didn`t even ride the first ride of the day until around 1 in the afternoon, and we had been in the open park since it opened! The shows are incredible at the park. The resort is coming. Its just a matter of when. The economy has to improve in order for it to commence. Remember, Herschend has been conservative with building new attractions in this economy, delaying Adventure Mountain a year, even though they had previously announced it to open in 2009. Cory Butcher
As Robby said Dollywood is a tremendous park, we have never had a shortage of things to do, between rides and shows. And, the park is just beautiful and themed well. There are exciting things ahead for their future. I would not be surprised at all to see Dollywood pass the 3 million visitor mark next year (2011). I said in another post on here that to be successful you have to "cook good food and promote like mad". Does Dollywood? YES! In fact I am hard pressed to walk through market square and not buy a philly cheese steak or a sausage every time I visit! Just another venue which supports the theory of premium pricing becoming the ultimate premium value.

gad198
Can't wait to get back to Dollywood on Friday. Ditto. I called down there and asked a representative whether everything (including Adventure Mountain and shows) would be open and they indicated that it would. I also asked how busy SP days tend to be there and the representative said that it would likely be pretty busy and to get down there early (earlier than 10) if possible. Just a heads up. I just hope that the weather cooperates!
DaveStroem
I can't imagine them getting busy on Friday. There is nothing on the website about it and to get the newsletter, you had to have already purchased or renewed your season passes. How many people besides enthusiast purchase season passes before the season. Now the weekend I can see being busy. My understanding is that Dolly is in the park opening weekend. On another note, the weather is calling for rain.

There is nothing on the website about it and to get the newsletter, you had to have already purchased or renewed your season passes. I was thinking the same thing too before I spoke with the rep. I did a quick Google search for Dollywood season passholder days and found all of three entries, so word certainly hasn't spread on the net. I did see the forecast for showers, and I'm hoping that forecast will keep some people away. Honestly though, as long as the parking lot isn't packed I'm not too concerned because the park handles crowds really well. It'll also be interesting how much interest Adventure Mountain draws. That'll certainly be our first destination if for no other reason than that line will move the slowest.
DaveStroem
This looks pretty cool. I wonder if I can get Nancy to do this.
gad198
I just stumbled across this article from last year: http://www.knoxville...ed/?partner=RSS "Despite the rain and colder-than-normal temperatures for this time of year, Dollywood's "Season Pass Holders Day" Friday looked to be successful. The parking lots were full.Crowds stood in the rain and wrapped around several buildings, waiting to get into the afternoon showing of Dollywood's new aerial circus show." Should be interesting. The Interpreter
Having attended several of those days, I'd be shocked and amazed if the park were anything but packed. You will still have a great time, and the cost of Q-Bots, which Dollywood calls QtoQ, is very low...I highly recommend them...get it early, though, as they are limited in number.... DaveStroem
Thanks Terp, we will consider getting a Q2Q if it is looking crowded. The cost for the 5 of us is less then a SF Q-bot for 1. When we were there last year, the park was so empty that I probably have a less then realistic impression of the park. We went on a Monday after their local schools were back in session. gad, how many are in your group? It looks like Sevierville Tenn schools will be in session on Friday. Their spring break is the week after Easter.

Are you all also heading down to Carowinds for their opening day? The Interpreter, thanks as always for the info. It stinks to hear about the potential crowds, but yeah, our first stop will be the Q2Q booth if it looks like crowds will merit it. Love the SP prices on their Q bots! I'm actually much more worried about getting into the two shows we really want to see than getting on the rides. If you do get the Q2Q make sure that you reserve all your show times before you leave the booth as that will save you a lot of hassle later. DaveStroem
I want to see Drum & Imagine myself. This is why I am not to worried if it rains. Yes we are going to do CW on Saturday.
gad198
I want to see Drum & Imagine myself. This is why I am not to worried if it rains. Yeah, I'd imagine (no pun intended) that those two shows will draw the biggest crowds by far, and with the threat of rain looming this makes getting the Q2Q a much easier decision. As long as we get those two shows in and at least one ride on each of the coasters I'll consider it a success, as we have a for-all-intents-and-purposes-first-timer with us. Should be a great weekend, and I hope to see you at either or both of the parks!
