Cedar Point 2011

Recommended Posts

AND Cedar Fair of late. See Kings Dominion for one example...

Not exactly Apples to Apples here, Terpy... I have yet to see CF leave pavement and yellow stripes under a coaster (although, such a treatment could actually improve the "theme" of the ride once known as the Italian Job).

Wasn't all the pavement removed and grass/landscaping put down?

If you're going to expand into an existing parking lot, this is the way to do it. SCREAM! was added directly ontop of existing blacktop, with lines and markings still clearly visible. That's the true definition of Parking Lot Coaster.

The ONLY reason there is no yellow striping under Dominator is because there was no yellow striping there to start with...

Well that made it easy! B)

Really, though, I think that the Dominator plaza and ride area look well done in person, and don't look like a parking lot at all.

Shockwave at Six Flags Great America was built on a parking lot wasn't it? Superman: Ultimate Flight was built where Shockwave was, and they planted grass and landscaped the area.

In the photo of Superman, it seems like since that photo was taken, more landscaping was added because I remember seeing some pine trees and mulch areas in 2008.

Yep, Scream was built during the Gary Story era. If ALL that were wrong with that thing was that it is a parking lot coaster....that thing makes me want to scream...and not in a good way.

Superman at Great Adventure also resides in what once was parking lot...while Great American Scream Machine at that same park also still has the parking lot striping clearly visible below, and it long pre-dates Mr. Story's reign.

If I'm not mistaken, there was a rumor a year or two ago that the proposed 2009 coaster for Great America had been scrapped and Cedar Point picked up the plans to see if it would fit somewhere - namely where Demon Drop once stood. It was just a rumor, but if the idea of the new ride at the Point is a coaster (and, for that matter, a GCI), then perhaps they're putting Great America's proposed coaster to good use.

A re-creation of the Cyclone or even something with a similar layout would be great. I agree with the article that was posted, Disaster Transport almost ruins the area. I'd much rather be looking up at a fast, tall, and impressive wooden coaster instead a big, tan building. With that being said, I doubt Cedar Point will be taking down anything for the sake of it's coaster tally.

Just thought I would quote what Screamscape has said.

With SF Magic Mountain having upped their coaster count to match Cedar Point with 17 coasters in 2010, I’d guess that they may opt for a new coaster in 2011 just to put them in the lead again, or at least ensure another tie in case SFMM were to add another one in 2011 as well.

Scroll down to the bottom of:

I agree with this statement completely, and it totally makes sense.

Methinks neither you nor Lance Hart at Screamscape really understands Al Weber, the new Interim CEO and President at Six Flags, who was CEO of Paramount Parks once upon a time. I cannot imagine that man giving a single whit about coaster crowns. How many B & M's were built at Kings Island under his reign? And before someone tells me about Son of Beast, that was Jane Cooper...not Al Weber....though he did have something to do with Kings Island at one time (tee hee).

I'm doubting that a ZacSpin would work at Cedar Point, especially at the front of the park in DD's old spot. Terrible capacity coasters + location + summer crowds could lead up to a 2-2 1/2 hour wait, and for a 10 second ride it's not worth it.

If I'm correct, Dick Kinzel has said that he refuses to add a B&M Flyer to Cedar Point because of capacity problems, and a ZacSpins have an even slower capacity.
