rivertowngirl
a. Re-entry into the parking lot is free for non-seasonpassholders...just show your receipt. Oh, interesting. Thanks for the reply. Now I will judge all those people I always see eating in the parking lot! Why in the world would you sit in a baking hot parking lot eating pb and j out the trunk of your car when you could just leave and go to an air conditioned restaurant?? Some people don't want to miss an extra minute in the park, and can't afford to eat inside or choose not to. Some cannot even afford to eat outside the park, but have chosen to use what they do have to go to Kings Island. b. Some people prefer their own food to that cooked/prepared by others. c. Some people have food allergies, etc., and must be very, very careful what they eat, and know they can find what they can eat when they bring it themselves. d. Some people like eating in a parking lot out of a cooler. Some of my fondest memories are of what we didn't even know yet could be called tailgating at drive in theaters...my family could not afford to eat out of the concession stand, but we could afford tickets several times a season...or we could have bought the drive in theater food and gone once a season. I am glad my family picked the first of those options. Just some thoughts... As for the judging of the people in the parking lots...I really try not to do that...there is a wise saying..."Never judge a person until you have walked a mile in her moccasins." We know not why they do what they do, and in this case they certainly aren't hurting others...though I get a little tired of the trash all too many of them dispose of by either leaving it in the parking lot or actively throwing it there. Pillsberry123
^ We eat in the parking lot about 50% of the time. It's cheaper than eating in the park and it's more convenient than leaving the parking lot and trying to find a restaurant. A sub from Subway or Penn Station can be thrown in the cooler with the drinks which can be bought for $6 a case instead of $4.25 a piece. EDIT: I'll be honest and say that so far this year we've bought food from LaRoasas, Skyline, and Outer Hanks. If I was smart I would have bought myself a souvenir cup earlier in the year, but i'm not dat smrt.

pcc
We have done the cooler thing a time or two. I have a family of 5, and with kids...they get hungry pretty often. At Rivertown Junction, even with the Gold Pass discount, it can cost my family a little over $60 to eat there. Jukebox Diner right around the same price. Since we live several hours away, we make the most of our visits by going for opening and staying until closing. Who wants to spend $100-200/day for park food that is mostly wasted by the little ones? When we bring a cooler, I'll bring things like pasta salad, fruits, veggies, chips, lemonade, brownies, cookies, sandwiches and dip for the veggies. We purposely choose hotels with a mini-fridge and microwave. Why? We also bring food to eat in the room. Stuff like salad, mac & cheese, etc. Doing so saves us money, which allows us to return several times a year. I guess you learn tricks here and there with a larger family lol. Not saying we never eat out, because we usually do at least once a day, but for our in between "I'm hungry!"'s we do food ourselves. Oh, and if my kids see someone litter, they get highly upset. My youngest will even pick up papers dropped if she's nearby..so don't litter in front of her unless you want to get a lecture from a 6 year old
rivertowngirl
Well today I saw it taken to a new level! (I drive by KI everyday from home to work) A group of ladies had a large table, with a tablecloth even, set up at the end of the parking lot. They had their cooler and lawn chairs set up around it. I won't share my thoughts on this
Purplehaze
Please share your thoughts. I think they did a good thing.
CoasterFreak45
Most times we never eat at the park for the sake we are not there long enough(We do ERT most of the time)but, I do enjoy the food sometimes. On a side note, Are they using a new ink for handstamps? I have this very bright blue handstamp and water doesn't even effect it. I hope they keep this! XGatorHead 8904
We do the parking lot picnic thing several times a year. We don't eat out of the car though, we take our cooler out to the grass strip in the middle of the parking lot, spread out a blanket, and have a nice picnic. Since we park in the gold pass lot, it's just a short walk from our car to the grassy area. We do it for mainly three reasons. First, it saves money on food. Second, it saves time in that we don't have to drive anywhere to save money on food that is cheaper than inside the park. Third, we're able to pack items that are healthier than the majority of the food in the park (fresh fruit, salads, etc.). Plus by eating healthier food then, we don't feel as bad when we get that blue ice cream or cinnabon that we just have to have!
markr
I also like Outer Hanks-the food is great (especially the ribs) and you get a lot of food for your money. Also along Coney Mall there is a food stand right near the Scrambler ( the name escapes me ) which serves great chicken fingers and fries and they give you a lot. ( The only bad thing is the food is very fattening-am trying to watch my fats and carbs. ) The Larosa's Pizza in my opinion is not what it used to be-I love pepperoni pizza but my idea of pepperoni pizza is not 2 or 3 pieces of pepperoni per slice-they tend to be very stingy about the ingredients. MarketingExpress
^I think skimping on the toppings is not just at KI, that's LaRosa's in general
markr
^Actually, the LaRosas stores outside the park from my experience do an excellant job in putting a lot of toppings on.
Jeffy
Hands down LaRosa's Pizza is the best meal in the park in my opinion. I'm wondering about re-entry to the parking lot, how does that work?
PhantomTheater
If you have a PP or GP, just have it rescaned at tolls. If you payed to park, KEEP YOUR RECEIPT and show it at tolls for reentry, you must have a pass or receipt for parking lot reentry.

Jeffy
Thanks Phantom, I have never driven off the lot once I have gotten there, the last 5 times I've avoided parking at KI altogether. $10 for parking is pretty outrageous.
The Interpreter
$15 is worse.... That's what many Six Flags parks get (with no Six Flags being less in the United States, now that Kentucky Kingdom is closed). Some are $20, and you can pay much, much more for preferred parking. People pay it, which astounds me.
Purplehaze
Wonder what it cost to park a bus? The same as a car?
The Interpreter
At many parks, parking a bus costs...nothing. Buses bring lots and lots of people. Parks like that.
