La Ronde Accused Of Discrimination

Recommended Posts

Requires park visitor to turn Bob Marley shirt inside out or leave, park official claims it cannot be racial discrimination because one of the two guards was black:

...La Ronde's corporate owner, Six Flags, he added, has been accused of racist practices in the United States. Now, Moise is lodging a complaint with the Quebec human rights commission.

La Ronde spokesperson Martin Roy flatly rejected Moise's charge of racial harassment. "One of the two guards is black, so that's absolutely not an issue," Roy said yesterday.

"Our dress code is strictly family-friendly," he added. "We want people to feel welcome here and not to feel assaulted by actions or publications."

La Ronde's dress code, displayed on the park website and summarized on its map and on signs at the park, prohibits clothing "with rude, vulgar, offensive language, or any other graphics deemed not family-friendly." Moise was told he could flip his T-shirt even though the park website says "shirts cannot be turned inside out as a solution." Roy said the guards made an exception "out of good faith and because he had no other shirt."...

I'm still trying to make myself believe the spokesperson actually said that. Wow.

Hmm... literally just before I read this I donned a Bob Marley shirt for my trip to Kings Island here in an hour or two, let's see if Cedar Fair has this sort of stance against him :P

Back on topic, that's ridiculous. If the shirt depicted Bob Marley actually smoking, I could see where that would have been a problem. But from what I understand it was just a design on the shirt.
