February 18, 200422 yr I have found this picture of my Mom, on this ride at PKI, she was 13. It was taken in 1973, she thought it was Bavarian Bettle, but it is not. So what is this ride?If you want to see the picture, you can email, I.M., P.M. or you can just tell me here, and I will email, it to you.
February 18, 200422 yr Well I can't see the picture... don't feel like going through the trouble of email... If it is definetly not Bavarian Beetle and is definetly from KI, then it could be the Tumble Bug which came from Coney Island. It had a train on a circular track with arms reaching to the center that moved the train around the circle. If it ain't that... I don't know.
February 18, 200422 yr Sounds like those HR people were wrong... I thought there was more then whatever they said. And they said Racer. Haha.
February 18, 200422 yr Author I asked my Mom, and she said it is not the Tumble Bug . The ride i'm talking about was in Octoberfest, and it is like a swiss bob. If someone tells me how to post a picture here, then I will post the picture. Edited January 1, 197056 yr by drewbari
February 19, 200422 yr ahh,,, THat's the Bayern Kurve. (email me the pic, and i'll post it for you. extremepki@houstonthrills.com)
February 19, 200422 yr this may not be the ride that was at PKI but here's a ride like it. http://www.flatrides.com/Ride%20Index/SchwarzkopfBayern.jpg
February 19, 200422 yr Author My Mom, thinks Bayern Kurve might be the right name. Edited January 1, 197056 yr by drewbari
February 19, 200422 yr After seeing the picture, I agree that it is Bayern Kurve. For some reason, I thought KI had a different name for it, but that's just my 30 year old mind playing tricks on me. I remember how well themed the ride was, complete with spectators around the back of the ride. In fact, as a preschooler, I actually thought those people were in line....
February 19, 200422 yr Yeah, I loved that ride. When it reached top speed, a loud horn would sound off. If I remember correctly, it went pretty fast. Bayern Curve should never have been taken out, just like some of the other flats that were good and are gone. Another example, the Rotor. Great fun and doesn't take up hardly any space. I like the newer flat rides that are out there like TR:TR and Delirium, but these were classsics and didn't need to flip you upside down to get the thrill.
February 19, 200422 yr this may not be the ride that was at PKI but here's a ride like it. http://www.flatrides.com/Ride%20Index/SchwarzkopfBayern.jpg Looks like a fun ride (that I wouldnt fit on) but the funniet thing in that picture is definitly the older gentleman with the pony tail standing in front of the ride. He has grayish hair. Steve
February 19, 200422 yr Is their any way you can post that picture of the Bayern Curve? I loved that ride, now that area of the park only has one ride or two rides depends on who you talk too.
February 19, 200422 yr Hey that pics from Kennywood Park! Kennywood still has their Bayren Curve the horn quite working last year. This is the second Bayren Curve the park has had the removed the first one back in the mid eighties and got the one they have now in the early 90s.They got it used. When did Paramont remove theirs?
February 20, 200422 yr Author Sorry WildCat, I do not know how to post pictures, my Dad and I tried to post, the picture all day, but no luck. Hopefully pkiDelirium will come through.
February 20, 200422 yr I've got it! will be posted VERY soon! EDIT: Pic! Edited January 1, 197056 yr by pkidelirium
February 21, 200422 yr Looks like someone already posted the picture before me. http://us.f2.yahoofs.com/users/402665e4_b1...hUdqNABXEHGhgJX
February 21, 200422 yr Author Thank you, pkiDelirium and WildCat for posting my picture. My Mom is the one in pink.
February 21, 200422 yr can you maybe post a bigger pic? Sorry that is how big the is picture. Edited January 1, 197056 yr by WildCat
February 22, 200422 yr Author I think they took it out in 1975, but I am not sure. Who are the HR people?
February 26, 200422 yr I remember the Banyan Curve, but I never got to ride it. What was the Rotor? I remember The Tumble Bug. It was a pretty fun ride when I was a kid. I remember how fast the Banyan Curve went. I was a kid so I thought it was VERY fast. That's probably why I never rode it. Info on ROTOR? thanks Tripper
February 26, 200422 yr Author It was a round ride that spun around real fast you were pushed up against the sides and the bottom would drop out.
March 25, 200422 yr What can you all tell me about the Bavarian Beetle? Where was it in the park and does anyone have any pics of it? THANKS! -adam12
March 25, 200422 yr Just wanted to post again that I'm very interested in knowing where the Bavarian Beetle was located in the park and when it was removed. I think it would have stood the test of time, it looked really cool. -adam12
March 26, 200422 yr Author I do not have any picture's of the Roter. The Bavarian Beetle was where the Festhaus is now. Here is were you can find pictures, http://extremepki.houstonthrills.com/history_photos.php
March 27, 200422 yr Where did this ride sit in the park? Why did they take it out? I think that would be a cool ride even for today! -adam12
March 27, 200422 yr Author The B.B. was in O.F. I think the cars were getting stuck on the track. Before it came to PKI, it was at Coney Island as Galaxi, it Operated from 1970 to 9/6/1971, then it came to PKI, and Operated from 1972 to 1979. They showed the Roter on the Brady Bunch show.
March 27, 200422 yr The Kurve is indeed the name KI used for the ride... Germantown/Oktoberfest was the home of some cool little rides at one point.. Rotor; Der Spinning Kegels; Bavarian Beetle... And my first (of way too many) experiences with Sauerkraut and Bratwurst occurred at the restaurant in the current shadow of the Viking Fury... But this brings up a very controversial point... Bayern Kurve... -a-Runs on rails, and -b-in part, is powered by gravity... Therefore, it is a coaster... Adjust your credits accordingly.
