The Interpreter
With less than a month left to prepare, Beech Bend Park workers are readying for the park's opening May 7.The water park will see its full opening May 19, according to Charlotte Gonzalez, daughter of park owner Dallas Jones. Winter weather and then May flooding delayed the water park's opening last year until July 21, and that didn't include Tiki Island. "But it's going to be ready when we open this time," Gonzalez said.... "We didn't quite make it," Gonzalez said of the 200,000 mark. "We still were up over the previous year. This year we are hoping for a double-digit increase." Perhaps part of an increase can come from the Louisville area, which won't see the opening of Kentucky Kingdom any time soon after the city of Louisville declined to issue $20 million in bonds to get the park reopened. "We picked up our advertising budget there and had hoped to get more people from Louisville," she said. While there weren't too many additional people coming from Louisville, Gonzalez said the park did see greater traffic from the Elizabethtown area. Gonzalez said it has taken nearly a full year to recover from the flooding, which washed away at least 100 picnic tables, ruined a bath house and other structures, and delayed other projects. They just put the finishing touches on a new bath house for the campgrounds. A portable one that had been in use in the months since the flood sits in the parking lot. "I guess we will sell that," she said.... http://bgdailynews.c.../news/news3.txt
CoastersRZ
Glad to see small parks like this one continually invest in the parks. Hopefully, this year is a better year for them, and they don`t have to deal with floods in May that wiped out most of their early summer season. thunderbeast1968
Has anyone attended this park? Is it a pay for individual rides, or handstamps? I am thinking of going to Holiday World and then drop by Beech Bend. Any tips or hints would be appreciated.
The Interpreter
Yes. Someone has been there. Not quite 200,000 someones last year! More seriously, the last of the quoted article: Park admission this year will once again be $29.99 for adults and $25.99 for children under 54 inches and those over 60."You have to think about what all that includes - both parks, free parking, miniature golf, the petting farm, free soft drinks and sunscreens," she said. Kentucky Rumbler is there.http://www.rcdb.com/2967.htm?p=0 A great GCI it is. Some wonderful flats. A new haunted house this year. And go read the quoted article...it's all worth reading. http://bgdailynews.c.../news/news3.txt The park is fun! http://www.beechbend.com/

The Interpreter
Expect a smaller version of Holiday World and you will know what you are apt to find. Expect KI or CP and you will be disappointed. Beech Bend is a fine small park...
Dieseltech20
We are going there so my brother can get his Coaster Legs, lol. Making our first trip to Holiday World in June and he has never really been on any Coasters. So we are taking him to ride Rumbler so he can get a feel for them. CoastersRZ
I unfortunately have never made it to Beech Bend. (I have worked on a project down in Bowling Green at work, unfortunately, I did not get to do any site visits, and it was winter when I was working on it anyways...) One of these days, I`d like to hit up Beech Bend.
KI Kevin
I went there last year for a few hours with my mom. We were able to hit pretty much all of the rides. Kentucky Rumbler is an absolute blast. I'm not a huge fan of GCI's (Wildcat and Lightning Racer at Hershey didn't do anything for me) but this one was awesome. Also, their Wild Mouse is a lot of fun. While small, the waterpark has a few good slides and a nice lazy river. I probably wouldn't pay $30 to go back again this year but maybe in a few years if they add some more stuff I'll go back. However what is fantastic about this park is that it's fairly close to Mammoth Cave and other Cave attractions. Most of the people here are from Cincinnati, so I HIGHLY recommend taking a weekend trip over the summer and hitting up Mammoth Cave, Beech Bend, and the Alpine Slide, or whatever that thing's called: http://www.kentuckyactionpark.com/content/view/15/29/. Dieseltech20
The biggest part of Beech Bend is the 1/4 mile drag strip. Reason enough to visit for me
