Gold Pass Parking area in the afternoon

Lance, Thank you for this. It seems you work for admissions by this post. Would you mind answering a question? Of course, I don't want you to break any agreements with KI by posting anything here your not supposed to. What is KI's admissions policy about an employee being at the Gold Pass Parking entrance? Also, what are their duties and authority if someone without a pass tries to get in? (Ok, I lied, 3 questions) Does it do any good for us to tell guess services when there's no one out there and the GP and Passers are fighting for spots? Again, please don't get into any trouble by replying.

Well how about you hear a thing or two from someone who worked for KI back when they were a completely different company? (Which wasn't that long ago.) Don't even consider trying to get into Gold Pass Parking if you're an employee. That is for guests only. I highly doubt their policy has changed on this one. I treated an employee like an absolute idiot for just trying to enter through the tolls instead of the area they were supposed to go to. And rightly so. It wasn't worth my time or trouble to report it. But I did report a guy selling his tickets right in front of me in the admissions window (back when they had them) and I didn't know that he was an employee at the time and he could have lost his job based on my actions. Oh well.

The fact that Gold Pass parking is still manned by admissions isn't surprising. It's cheaper to do that than pay a security guard to stand there. Paramount knew this too. The employee used to be equiped with a radio, but I was never really told what this radio was for. I assumed it was to call in problems that might have come up in the parking lot, including if an unauthorized vehicle entered Gold Pass parking without showing proper credentials. I wouldn't imagine that there's anything they can really do about it, but I'll just say that there wasn't really a thing I could have done about it even if I wanted to--which in most cases I didn't.

In a lot of cases, it doesn't do any good to complain to guest services about anything that is both policy and admissions-related. Since the issue of someone not being there doesn't quite qualify as policy, then I'm on the fence about it. I say someone should be there at least in the morning when the rush comes in. The argument there is that close parking isn't needed so much at that point in the day as when it's around 3:00 in the afternoon and there aren't hardly any close spots anywhere. So, it's a tricky issue. The main thing is consistency. I say either put someone out there all the time or not at all and do it every day of the operating season. Now, when you go into guest services and tell them that there's nobody out there checking Gold Passes, do you expect them to run someone out there immediately? If that's the case, then yes it's a complete waste of time.

That's really all I've got on the matter. I didn't really enjoy working the Gold Pass booth, but I had to a couple of times the summer I worked there. The walkie talkie made it interesting, though. I never had to sit out there in a heavy crowd so it was really slow and I'd listen in on the other channels (which I wasn't supposed to do) and hear about the people working on the rides, as well as security related issues and stuff. That got me through the boredum.

Ok. They might be today because they are allowed to enter through the main gate as well. When I worked there, employees were prohibited from using any entrance that a guest used.

Why would an employee try to park in the gold pass lot? They have one of the best areas of the lot to park in already

I'm not sure about that one. But, the question was posed so I answered it.

I got to Kings Island at 1:40 yesterday, June 29th and not only were there NO guard checking passes, they had dropped the chains that usually stay up till way up in the evening. There were GP coming in those open places, and I could not park there. They really need to be consistent with how this operates. I'm with Kwinshawne on this one. I would be good if they got rid of both the Gold Pass and Prefered lots and made it parking for all. However, for this year, I paid for the perk to have a place to park and yesterday I did not, because they let anyone park there. They need to man that lot till at least 6 pm.

The other thing I'm aggravated about out there, is when you first arrive in the morning, they make you drive all the way down those cones and sometimes even all the way back to the north lot and back to the south to get to Gold Pass. There really seems to be a major disconnect in the parking lot. It's an issue that needs to be addressed and resolved. Theres no reason to be in a bad mood walking into the gates, because the parking was a very unpleasant experience.

I do not know about after 5PM but I know for a fact that gold pass parking SHOULD HAVE BEEN staffed that day. Today I was out at gold pass parking from 8:00AM to 3:00PM and it was full by 2:30PM. Also admissions not security staffs that area.

Great questions and I will not get in trouble that much as what you are asking is relevant to my dept. First off I know for a fact that unless gold pass parking fills up early as it did yesterday (6/29/11) there should always be someone there until at least 6PM. (That's when gold pass parking closes). Also to answer about the people who try to slip one by us on not having a pass. there are two things we can do in that situation. 1. I have a little two way radio that I can use to call the supervisors or 2. We can page security. Admissions is responible for gold pass parking. Also when you tell the staff at guest services that gold pass parking was not staffed there isn't much they themselves can do as guest services and admissions are in fact in the same dept. but with guest services they must have prior authority by admissions to proceed to gold pass parking. Hope this anwers your concerns.

So what your saying is the gold pass lot should be attended until 6pm or until the lot is full. That helps alot.

We got there today at 3:30= employee and 1/4 empty. We left at 6:30=no employee and the lot was much more full with cars of people coming in.
