jcgoble3 Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Having only been to HW and KI this year, I would have to go with HW. HW wins with Mammoth. KI loses on IMO false advertising (how is SC double the size of BB when the only addition is one new wave pool? I still can't figure that one out.). 2 Quote
BB1 Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 . KI loses on IMO false advertising (how is SC double the size of BB when the only addition is one new wave pool? I still can't figure that one out.). Also they cut off a pathway to Sn...erm Zoom Flume, which makes the new SC about the same size in feet. Now for me it has to be Disneys California Adventure, and a great renovation to the Matterhorn Bobsleds with the new snow. KI, im sorry but your "renovation/attraction" choice does not appeal to my eyes. Quote
TTD-120-420 Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Probably whatever Disney park opened cars land this year. For regional parks, I would go with Holiday World or Busch Gardens Europe. Holiday World pretty much rebuilt part of Voyage making it even more awesome. They also opened Mammoth, although I liked Wildebeest better. Busch Gardens opened Verbolten. ''Nuff said. Quote
kblanken Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Kings Island gets my vote. If I can make a trip to Hershey this year, that might change. I haven't been on any new for 2012 rides that aren't wing coasters, so I'll stick with the renovation of Snake Pit and Hank's. (Not that the wing coasters are bad, just because the new food is that good.) Quote
Joncars05 Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 HW I think takes the cake as far as park i have been to this year (Indiana Beach, HW, KI, BGT). The addition of the Mammoth, Sparkler, the wonderful retracking of The Voyage, and the cabanas were a good addition in a quiet area. The park did a wonderful job this year. As for KI and SC doubling in size. Did it double in size purely by capacity instead of actual area? They added a wave pool, bar, volleyball courts, cabanas, and what seems to me like a longer "lazy" river. That is a lot of "room" added if you ask me. Quote
BB1 Posted July 15, 2012 Author Posted July 15, 2012 1 The "Splash river runs on the circuit as the old Crocodile Run. 2. Where is this new bar? Quote
Joncars05 Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 1 The "Splash river runs on the circuit as the old Crocodile Run. 2. Where is this new bar? the one before the sand volleyball and new wave pool. Maybe it has been there the whole time? I just never noticed it. I thought that the river was longer but thats why i said it "seems to me like a longer "lazy" river" Sorry if I was wrong on both. Joncars05 Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Sweet. I never noticed it before. I guess you learn something new everyday! haha Quote

As for doubling in size, it's very clearly supposed to be area. See http://www.cleveland.com/travel/index.ssf/2012/05/in_southwest_ohio_soak_city_op.html , which says it went from 15 acres to 33 acres. Google "Kings Island Soak City double" and you'll get a whole list of other sources saying something along the lines of "doubling to 33 acres". Quote
TombRaiderFTW Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Of the parks I've been to this year, it's a tie between Holiday World and Dollywood. For Holiday World, the rebuilding of half of The Voyage's turnaround does wonders for that ride, and Sparkler's a very fitting addition to the Fourth of July area. I haven't ridden Mammoth yet, but considering the lines it's garnered (and removed from Wildebeest), I'd say it's more than fulfilling the purpose the park had for it. For Dollywood, Wild Eagle is clearly very popular (as it should be, in my opinion.) It's a very fun, thrilling ride (particularly for a B&M) that no park in the region has anything like. Quote
