When King Cobra was taken down I was told it was because on limited parts. But why does KD get to keep Shockwave? Was King Cobra's parts given to Shockwave? I apologize if there is a similar thread.

Skyrider at CW is also still around. I've had the exact same question for long time. The answer that I've heard is that King Cobra was made from inferior Japanese steel, but Shockwave and Skyrider weren't.

thank you! I was wondering, why does Kings Dominion get to keep their stand up? I know the ride hurt but I thought that if they were given a choice, they should've kept it.

Yes, King Cobra was the prototype Togo stand up coaster. I much prefered it to Mantis up at Cedar Point, as I found it to be a much more enjoyable ride experience when compared to the ride up north.

That being said, what many forget is that because of the restraint design on King Cobra, it was NOT a very high capacity ride. Not to mention, the trains only held 24 passengers. It was a fun ride, but I actually prefer Delirium over King Cobra.

Low ridership I do not beleive was the one of the main reasons, that ride still drew long lines even during it's last year of operation.

Yep. It routinely had long lines its last season. And don`t forget, that it had been repainted a few years prior to its removal as well.

The ride closed off and on at random times throughout each operating day due to maintenance issues. Some days ran better than others, but it was not uncommon for a large line to be told that the ride was down with no indication for how long. I recall standing in line 2 to 3 times when this happened. Some people would wait, while others left. It became pretty frustrating at times. However, I do miss that ride a lot and wish they had replaced it with another coster instead of a flat ride and a freakin Sling Shot...booooo :/
