Observation wheels/Ferris wheels

Featured Replies

Incredible, great , and wonderful article from Orlando today, its a great story. I'm saying Kings Island should have one year round, in a new village area to link to the waterpark, and great wolf lodge. The ferris wheel could anchor the village and also for park guests .

It could be climate controlled gondolas year round.

But the ferris wheel in general sure is moving along from ferris wheel to Observation wheel, looks as if New york will have the biggest, las vegas the most in one city, and so many other incredible heighths!

Pretty neat. Only problems: year round gondolas when the park is open for half a year and enthusiasts getting upset of having that instead of a new coaster.

But I really don't know of one park that has been successful or even its been done with catering only to Coasters/thrill seakers.

This would rock!

I rode the one in Myrtel Beach this summer the cars were amazing with doors on both sides that opened like elevator doors would. It was only 200' tall but still very fun and a great view. I could see the wheel from the beach in front of my hotel on North Myrtel Beach 6 miles away!

Just a side note, but if you go here there is a restaurant called Marvins next to it,best prices and cheeseburgers! So Yummy, gosh i miss Myrtle now!

A few things to watch for if installing a giant wheel.....

How will it look from outside the park? (will it block the current skyline?)

How will the regions weather affect operations? (please note that strong winds and harsh conditions in the winter could mean repair expenses)

These wheels are very popular right now, but what about 5 or 10 years down the road? (KI used to have a ferris wheel or two - what happened to them?)

Knotts still runs a classic ferris wheel, I think ferris wheels last as long as the park is in business , just my opinion.

It was Kings Island that decided to take theirs out, under previous owners.

Feel with the problems bogging the swing ride (the new star flyer models ) ferris wheels are more for everyone.

I had the stupid notion, when I was a kid, that if the Sky Ride at Lesourdesville ever broke, all I'd have to do was stick my legs out in front of me so they wouldn't break, as the ride would act like a football helmet for my butt. No idea of time, space, velocity or gravity at that age.

I prefer Ferris wheels to Sky gondolas simply because they feel safer. Besides, a Ferris Wheel can cool a person off on a hot day, and it's an easy time, and you get a nice view. I wish Kings Island would have one, but where to put it where there will be an interesting fun view?

Out of all the thrill rides and coasters at Cedar Point, the ferris wheel there is by far my favorite ride.

The last trip I ever took there, we got delayed and delayed and delayed. Our plan to get there at 10 am ended up being a 2 PM arrival. The park was jam packed on a weekday with kids and school busses. Lines were long, everyone in the car was annoyed with each other - so we all went our separate ways. All I really did that day was photograph the ferris wheel and ride it a few times. Most relaxed I've ever been.

i got a spot for the giant wheel @ indiana beach. just wish that its light packaged was fixed.
