While I have been tweaking my signature this afternoon (I still haven't found one I like), something caught my eye that I thought I should mention.

First and foremost, per our Terms of Service, these are the basic guidlines pertaining to signatures:

Signatures- Please limit signature banners to 468x60 pixels or smaller. You may only have one signature banner image. (You may have two if you are in our Survivor game.) Also, please limit text to about 6 lines or less. Large signatures are not dial up friendly and are quite annoying.

URL links or personal site advertisements are not allowed in signatures or posts unless approved by a KICentral administrator.

However, in the text box above the signature editing area, it states this:

Your signature may contain:

• • Any number images
  
• • Images of any size
  
• • Any number of URLs
  
• • Any number of lines
  

essentially contradicting the ToS.

Obviously, at least one source is incorrect. My question is, which one should we abide by, and is there any other outdated information within the two sources we should know about?

Contradictory indeed.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the information in the signature editing area is more current and accurate.

A large part of this belief comes from this line in the ToS: " Large signatures are not dial up friendly and are quite annoying."

Although dial-up isn't quite dead, it is becoming more rare by the day.

Though I will point out that even on broadband, tall images are still annoying because of the extra scrolling needed to get past them.

The terms of service are correct. We want to limit the size of signatures so as to limit the amount if scrolling in threads. Keep in mind that some of the features under the edit your profile function can come from the forum software and not necessarily KICentral.

We have in the past removed signatures and banner images that violated the terms of service signature requirements. We will continue to do this if we find users who violate this aspect of the terms of service. We want to focus on the content.

Not sure if I'm the only one here, but recently I've noticed extra "annoying" signatures more so then the past....
