HoliWood Nights 2013

Recommended Posts

There's not much lodging near HW, so how early do you have to book to be reasonably close? The hotels up near I-64 are already $162+/night that weekend according to Expedia, and I assume Santa's Lodge and HW's campground cabins go quickly.

I haven't gone to this before, but I'm considering it for next year. If I do go, I wouldn't want to be stuck driving 50 miles round-trip to a hotel Friday night.

I hope coastermania is not on the same weekend. Last year the two events were on different weekends, but in the past they have been on the same weekend. I stay with family down there so I wont be splitting a room with anyone. I need to upload my TR from HWN 2012 still I have it but it on my other computer. It is an awesome event so I highly recommend it!

I would say hold off on making hotel arrangements just yet. They usually make a deal with Santa's Lodge or Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort in plenty of time for you to take advantage of the deal and not be rushed in making the decision. Trust me, if you go, the Kochs will take care of you.

Last year I didn't book my hotel room from Santa's Lodge unti mid March. On the Facebook group, they put together a group rate, so it was only 79.99 a night.

I would love to go, but doubt I'll be able to afford it this year. Hopefully in 2014.

To each their own, because to me, the extra $20 a night was so worth it to be a minute drive from the park. Being used to eastern time, it was like finishing at 12a the first night, and 1a the second. I was not awake enough to drive for 40 minutes following. :P Plus, it's roughly 40 miles each way, 80 miles a day. Nearly 3 gallons of gas, it adds up.

Good to know, thanks! I don't know what my schedule will look like that far out, but I'm definitely hoping to go. I really enjoyed visiting HW for the first time this year, and this event seems to be a lot of fun.

If I go alone, I'd certainly be open to splitting a room with someone, but I wouldn't mind having my own room either.

Stay in Evansville, its $60 to $70 a night and its 40 minutes away. Thats what Avatar and I did in 2010, and thats what I will be doing again this year.

I'm with Hendrick on this - I'd be driving 300 miles each way to get to HW, so I'd prefer not to add 80 for a hotel. That $20 savings goes down to $10 considering gas, which isn't nearly enough money to drive that far.

if your a camping type of person, check out lincoln state park. if you round up enough for one of there cabins its fairly cheap per person. but just a precaution (as i learned my lesson on this) make sure your fellow camp buddies are campers or have been camping before; cause if you dont, you aint getting any sleep that night from there shinanagins...

I'm definitely interested in going to my first Holiwood Nights this year. Nothing's guaranteed at this point, but this is the first year since I've discovered Holiday World that the event isn't falling the weekend before finals week. There's actually a chance I'll be able to make it, but we'll have to see how things go down.

My advice: If you can make it... GO!!! The trip is well worth it. Short lines (rode the 3 coasters 42 times in just over 5 hours of ERT, Good food (you are fed 3 times during the event), silent auction for park parts, waterpark ERT, the list goes on. You will have a great time!

Oh, I would absolutely love to be there. Trust me, the motivation's there--I just have to make sure I'll have the means and the availability, too. :) If there's one thing I like, it's being around people who get excited about the things I get excited about while doing those exciting things. Plus, the idea of riding Raven at night sounds amazing. (I know Voyage and Legend are probably great, too... Raven just strikes me as having the most potential for greatness at night.)

Oddly enough, I had a guy wearing an ACE jacket try to convince me to go to Holiwood Nights last time I visited Holiday World using almost the exact same reasons. As I still thought at the time that finals would coincide with the event, I told him I wouldn't be able to... and then he tried to justify me not studying for finals that weekend. I can honestly say I've never had someone try to tempt me before or since to neglect school for the sake of roller coasters. That wasn't you, by chance, was it?

Haha that wasn't me that you talked to! As much as I love this event (keep in mind last year was my first year ever going), I would never put it over academics. The event should be around for a little while so if you miss it this year you'll catch it another time! But yes I will always give glowing reviews about the event. My testimonials might be so positive that it might over rate the event for others (I would hope not but I guess it is possible, haha).

@TombRaiderFTW..... You are absolutely right about the effect that nightfall has on the coasters at the Event. Raven is amazing at night, but Voyage at night is something that defies verbal explaination! There are absolutely NO lights around that coaster anywhere but the lift hill, and it is honestly the one single coaster Ive ever ridden where it truly feels that the tracks are not going to hold that train. The speed and intensity of that ride, combined with the pure darkness, gives it a truly 100% out of control feeling.
