Any word on a new sign?

Yeah, DragonLord, last I heard, the sign won`t be ready for opening day either. I heard that they are planning on having it ready by early summer. I would imagine that they are being held up on the zoning variance from Mason if I had to take a guess, seeing how they already have Paramount Pictures approval.

I don`t know if they have to show a rendering of the sign or if they just have to provide dimensions for how big the sign is going to be. If they just have to provide dimensions, then it is not any bigger than what the old one was. however, I believe that zoning meetings are open to the public, at least in Anderson Township they are. If the park does have to provide a rendering, then I`m sure one could find out by attending the zoning meeting in which that was on the agenda.

Under normal circumstances, any zoning meeting will be open to the public for it is a public affair.

I'm sure that the park won't have any trouble getting whatever they want, you have to realize what an economic powerhouse the park is. (Then again, it's not like they can just up and leave)

It really isn't that big of a deal, true, but when you're so used to seeing something in one spot for so long it's weird when it's gone. I remember the first day I worked after it fell down I just felt weird. It's really hard to explain but it was just there, it never really changed all that much and that kind of stability was always kind of nice. It's just different driving by the park on the freeway and not having a sign there, that's all. If it doesn't affect you then so be it, it's no big deal.

I'm really not seeing what was so special about that sign, yeah it was 32 years old but so is a lot of the stuff in the park... it wasn't that great looking in the first place.

If the sign was built 32 years ago (when the park opened), then they probably (sarcasm) did not have the technology to build something that would wow us in today's world. I'm sure that if the park saw to it, they could do something REALLY spectacular, but like Steve said, a sign is a sign. The park sits on the highway anyhow, so it's kind of difficult to miss.

In my opinion, a sign helps, but the park's overall success doesn't tread on a fifty foot tall light-up board.

All I have to hope is that the new sign is unique.

One thing is true, the sign has been there for quite some time....and it does look sorta strange with out a sign there. But, did you ever think about this,...A sign fell down during a bad thunder storm.....good thing it wasn't a ride, then there would be something to conplain about. Though having a ride be destroyed by a thunder storm is unlikey(excluding tornados and severe lightning). I do not know for sure whether of not there was infact a tornado there on that night or early morning, some one else can help you with that, but lets just be glad it was just a sign.

Heck, maybe PKI will put up one of the new modern signs that are almost like t.v.'s, YES, expensive, but, hey, it COULD happen. Go to Las Vegas...they have everysign amaginable blink.gif ! LOL biggrin.gif

From what I heard, there was no tornado that night, just some severly high winds. And from my understanding, since the park was open the night that it happened, that for the most part, everyone had just left the park (guests and employees) which was incredibly lucky, cause a lot of people have to drive past that area, or catch the bus from that bus stop that was directly underneath the sign. So, we were lucky that it didn't happen in the middle of day, but instead in the middle of the night.

As for a new sign, I feel that we do need it. That sign was a valuable piece of my everyday routine. Thanks to the sign, I always knew just how late I was running (although for the record, I was never actually late for work), which groups were going to be in the park (this information I would use to gauge just how busy HB would be that day...ie, if it's junior cheerleaders day, you should bet your life, that it will indeed be quite busy), and it helped the guests know when the park was closed to the general public. In general that sign was quite valuable to the park, as both an advertising tool and a general knowledge tool. Without it the park just isn't the same.

Any one know of any developments with regards to the new sign? Does nayone know if the park received the zoning variances from the city of Mason to build a sign of the same size? Last I heard is the park originally wanted to have a sign built for the start of the season, but that was too optimistic and that the park anticipated to have a new sign by early summer. Any know of the current happenings?

Well if it interests anyone....

Tarvin Electric... one of the contractors PKI uses, has parked their work-site trailer which if full of wires and stuff they use, right next to the spot where the sign was. Now that doesn't mean they will be starting on it soon since there are no parts for it there yet. The park has replaced the footers for some of the light posts in the parking lot, so they could have been out there running the wiring for those and maybe getting ready to start the electrical prep for the sign.

Thanks for the update Beatfreak. I`m sure whenever they get their new sign built, it will match the nostalgia that the old one had, and will hopefully welcome visitors to the park for a longer time than what the original sign did! I can`t wait to see the finished sign!

Part of me wonders if this new "Hollywood Style" sign is going to look something like PCW's sign. I hope the Reid's don't mind me borrowing one of their pics to show off the sign. This sign seems to have everything Jeff has talked about.....a tribute to the old, and a sign of the future

The Wonderland sign does look like that, minus the PCW Junkies logo on the message board. They usually just have announcements up on that part. Usually when they are hiring, hours of the park and so on.

If they incorporated the PCW style, with a LCD screen for PKI it would look real nice.
