Week V: Interesting Coaster Names

Featured Replies

Every coaster has a name, which could be a good thing or a bad thing.

It could be bad if it is a clone, like Batman, or Superman, or a good thing if it is special to the coaster, like Banshee, or The Bat.

So, what are some interesting coaster names? Or, what coaster names do you think will be a good idea?

Good Coaster Names:

-The Beast

-Millennium Force

-Silver Bullet

Coaster Name Ideas:

-Thor

-Centurion

-Konungr

I think a good name is Wicked Twister at CP. There is no other like it and suits the ride perfectly in my opinion.

I personally love the names of Chinese coasters when translated.

Like: Fairly Yum Yum Gumdrop Coaster of the Forest.

Or other such yarns.

I am getting a bit tired of the Colossus, Behemoth etc. Can't they find a better name than a synonym for large??

My favorites:

-The Beast

-Behemoth

-Leviathan

-Poltergeist

-Millennium Force

-Comet

-Silver Bullet

-Oblivion

-Verbolten

-Gwazi

-Gemini

-American Thunder

I'm absolutely the worst at coming up with my own ride names out of the blue. If I have a theme or something to go off of, it's much easier.

"Fiery Fist of Pain," from one of the last of the semi-decent Spongebob episodes (before the show jumped the shark completely and became utter garbage).

Heck they should just make an entire theme park named Glove World!!

Oh boy, finally a topic that gives me an excuse to talk about Fairy-Magic Funland.

Several years ago whilst exceedingly bored, I wrote up the fictional history of a fictional amusement park named Fairy-Magic Funland. The gist of it was that Fairy-Magic Funland was the most ludicrously unsafe amusement park in existence, and I mean so ludicrously unsafe the park must have been cursed. Anyway, the singular roller coaster in Fairy-Magic Funland was a (fictional) kiddie coaster named Rolling Coaster (or Fairy's Flight; the park couldn't seem to decide) that had previously been located at two other parks, the first of which completely burned to the ground after the coaster was installed, and the second of which saw the coaster derail and hit two patrons and a costumed character. Dark? Absolutely, but it sure was hilarious at the time.

So yeah. Rolling Coaster is quite the interesting name.

If Roller Coaster Tycoon taught me anything, it's that a pay-per ride shuttle loop named "Steel Money Printer" is the best idea in the world.

Some names I've liked:

Maverick

Voyage

Raven

Legend

Beast

Banshee

Bat

Patriot

Nitro

Viper

Shockwave

American Eagle

Great American Scream Machine

Revolution

Names that have too many syllables if said in their entirety:

Magnum (XL-200)

Hypersonic (XLC)

Volcano (:The Blast Coaster)

and almost every kiddie coaster ever created 2

my top 5 favorite coaster names:

-Montu

-Maverick

-Beast

-Magnum

-Goliath

Yes, I do think Goliath is a good name. I just wish it wasn't used so much.

Names I think should exist....

Shenanigans

Monty Python and the Holy Coaster

Electronic Dance Machine (EDM)

Jack Skellington's Escape from Christmas Town

Best existing name - Rollo Coaster ( amazingly simple, but it is the only one. Compare to the many named Roller Coaster or Coaster ).

Name that should exist - Headbanger.

I often dream of having built a theme park in Billings, Montana. I even made a couple of RCT/RCT2 parks following along the lines of that dream (never RCT3; it kept freezing up my laptops). There had been real talk of a "Western Heritage-themed" park there (complete with a giant cowboy observation tower) about 20 years ago, but it never became a reality. Here's what I'd come up with:

1. A wooden twister called "Rimrock Rampage" (Billings is known for its "Rimrocks," a cliff wall that runs along the northern edge of the city);

2. An out-and-back "Racer" called "Alias: Smith & Jones"

3. A mine train called "Sluicebox Sam"

4. An inverted, steel coaster called "Yell-O-Stone"

I'd have also named my flats such things as "Sidewinder" (Troika); "Big Sky Bandit" (Wave Swinger a'la Zephyr); and "Teton Tango" (Jump2), among others.

Personally I think Kumba is one of the most fitting names out there.

It became challenging to come up with new names. I made a quick, randomizer spreadsheet and came up with a few wild ones.

So, who's up for a spin on "Ned's Poncho?"

^^^^ There's a different kind of Flying Circus I wish I could ride in my lifetime.

I once had a park in RCT where all the coasters were named after different phobias. I only remember four of the names offhand:

  • Claustrophobia, a completely underground coaster
  • Agoraphobia, built right next to Claustrophobia, out in the open
  • Arachnophobia, a coaster with 8 out and back sections
  • Triskaidekaphobia, a coaster that had 13 loops.
