5 Insanely Expensive Theme Park Rides That Literally Didn't Work

Featured Replies

Wow...didn't know Jaws had been that much trouble for Universal.

Jaws was great in 2009, but i am sure glad that i had the chance to ride it before they said it was being shutdown.

I thought Jaws was removed completely not that long ago?

Yes, i edited my post, because i thought Screamscape said that Jaws was back, the problem was, i had misread, and it was Universal Studios Hollywood, not Orlando.

I miss Son of Beast. I really liked it. I would just take 2 Advil before riding.

Two of my favorite rides in the number one and two spot, both gone, maybe that's a sign...

I didnt know it either. BUt the article did say the ride many of us would ride in the 90s was different than the one that originally opened that causes grief for the park.

When did SOB experience a sudden stop? I thought the incident was the crack and it was a big bounce not stop...

They probably could have included Tomb Raider aka The Crypt on that list.

Yes, miss it too. I think about it everytime I pass it.

Never got to ride TRTR. But I enjoyed The Crypt during the 2008 season. It really wasn't even that bad in 2009. I also really enjoyed Jaws when I rode it.

Correct, Orlando's was removed for Diagon Alley.

I was able to ride Jaws a couple times in 2009, and again two days before it closed in 2011. The ride experience is enhanced if the "skippers" are good.

Jaws > Harry Potter

Also I did not care for Tomb Raider: The Ride or The Crypt. It was alright every once in a while but I never cared to wait if their was a line more than a couple of cycles.

The first time I rode Jaws I was 13 years old and my brother was 9. We sat all the way on the rail to the inside. When the dead burnt/electrocuted Jaws at the end kind of did his thing where he moves a little bit towards the boat after sitting there still, we screamed like little girls. It was such a fun thrill.

Jaws was my very first amusement park ride ever. I lived in FL with my family until I was seven. Mom took me to Universal to see Barney when I was three, and figured that she didn't want to buy two tickets to Universal without getting her money's worth. She took me on Jaws, and I guess (I don't remember since I was three) the driver of the boat pulls a "gun" out and shoots it during the course of the ride. She tells me I screamed the loudest of anyone on that boat...and for a good 45 minutes afterward too.

The original Jaws in Orlando was about the same ride till the end. Jaws used to grab the boat and spin it before the skipper shot at him and you got away. The turn table keep breaking and boats would be stuck. If you road Jaws the turn table was about where Jaws got electrocuted with the wire in his mouth.

Forgot to add Drachen Fire to the list.
