Interesting Disney story:

The rides/ attractions that never showed up at Disney World, even an East Coast Matterhorn, which today is only at the Anaheim park.

Made me think of all the parks out there that had dreamed up attractions that never came to be built.

Too. Cool. There's a cool Western River Expedition video with Tony Baxter that I'm gonna try to track down. Someone might enjoy it. Thanks for sharing!

Wow...what fun! That was a cool article...I've always wondered what may have been planned for KI that never materialized. Anyone with information care to elaborate?

Something about an Addam's Family dark ride / coaster that evolved into Italian Job? And something about the Krusty Krab? I sincerely don't know the details but maybe that'll trigger something in someone who does.

Meanwhile there was the MTV Soundwave that was supposed to be a relocated re-theme of Kings Dominion's Flight of Fear. It never materialized, but concept art that closely matches it was released for one of those overseas Paramount Parks that never got past the land-clearing stage.

A Drop Zone like Kentucky Kingdom's Hellevator. Canceled.

The Rye Aeroplane Coaster. Canceled. Son of Beast built instead.

Hurler. Originally planned where the Antique Cars were. Canceled.

Adams Family Coaster. CBS'd.

Train taken out. Cedar Fair canceled that dumb plan.

Flight of Fear rotated to Carowinds or Canada's Wonderland. Also saved by Cedar Fair.

Batwing at SFA was meant for KI. Paramount Parks passed after seeing how Stealth worked. The latter was moved to Carowinds to make way for a waterpark expansion in California.

Year around International Street shopping and restaurants. Never happened.

There was a planned replica of Rye's Aeroplane? I would rather have had that than SOB.

For the Island seemed to remember a Sponge Bob Car wash/ tique type ride, and the other thoughts above were awesome of what could have been.

I know right now Disney is trying to get Marvel, and Star Wars in the parks, so awesome!

But yes this over Son of Beast would rocked:

Looks like a cool coaster.

I know that the Son of Beast didn't turn out to be a really good coaster, but I give them credit for trying to push the envelope. On paper, I'm sure all of these ideas sounded really good. It had two helixes, which is what made The Beast really popular. It had height, which at the time, many parks were racing to build the highest coaster. It had a loop, which was huge and you just didn't see wood coasters with loops. Also, it had that high bank turn after the first drop, which is something that has been done more successfully as of recent. I guess what it all boils down to is other coaster manufacturers learned a lot from the mistakes made in the design and building of Son of Beast. Oh, and I also forgot that The Beast name was used in hopes that by using a variance on the name of the original at the park, it would bolster a lot of interest in the ride.

Not to mention the original designers were fired and KI revised and tried to finish it in house. Then a bunch of legal stuff happened afterwards.

If I design a mousetrap that is the newest and greatest. Then you take over the project and change something (even miniscule) it may not work as well as intended or at all.

In Paramount's defense, it's not like RCCA did a splendid job on Rattler. Then again, they knew that already when they hired them. And hired them anyway.

Sigh.

Paramount wanted to take out the train? Did Paramount have any respect to classic rides? Or was their ultimate goal to replace every classic ride with Hollywood and concrete?

Very interesting. I seem to remember talk of a ride/attraction during the Paramount years based on a movie called Snow Day...something about kids being able to play in snow inside a contained building.

Not Paramount.

CBS.

Their ultimate goal was to save their way to prosperity and sell out for a King's ransom.

Worked, too.
